This is solid for the best 2 deep OL in college football. He can play guard or tackle.
He can play OT, but not at a high level as he showed in the later part of this past season when he got in for a few snaps due to injuries. But by the start of 2025 it seems likely that PSU will have a legit 2 deep at OT (unless there is a loss to transfer),which would put Nelson inside where he plays at a higher, more consistent level.
Cooper Cousins has to be a starter IMO. Probably takes Wormley's place at Guard. Could he be effective at Tackle?
Seems reasonable that Cousins and Shanahan will battle it out to replace Wormley. i.e. if the staff looks at Nelson as coming back to be a versitile backup olinemen. But maybe he's coming back to win Wormley's spot and finally be a starter for a year. Who knows. Should be an interesting spring position battle if all 3 stay healthy, along with possibly Williams and Onoh. Williams reportedly is done at OT, moving inside going forward. And Onoh, returning from injury looks kind of like Donkoh in that he could play inside or outside. Could have a really legit 2 deep inside for 2025.
It seems great that none of the above, as well as Birchmeier, have entered the transfer portal so far! If Birchmeier is staying maybe Trautwein will make a Center out of him beginning this Spring. Cousins was looked at as the next PSU Center but sometimes plans change...........
