... Ian listed Jerry as one who’s career was “underwhelming” at best and I beg to disagree...
Consider... during his HS career if you won a PIAA title you had to go up a weight the following year...
...Jerry won titles at 4 consecutive weights!...
... in college, Freshmen could not wrestle varsity so he only had 3 years of varsity competition...
... in addition, back then PSU only sent EIWL champions to the NCAA tournament...
... Jerry was undefeated as a sophomore in dual meets but lost to Lehigh’s Senior 3X EIWA Champion George Feuerbach in the EIWA final..
...as both a junior and senior Jerry won the EIWA
Championship ... in the 1953 NCAA tournament he lost only to Gus DeAugustino 2-4 and finished 3rd... DeAugustino was the NCAA champion...
In the 1954 tournament his only loss was to Oklahoma State NCAA champion Myron Roderick and Jerry finished 3rd again...
... that’s a very fine career in my opinion... :)

You must realize that through today's blue and white glasses, a 2x AA is just an average wrestler.

... and if your glass lenses are blue and white you’re only really seeing half the picture clearly... :(

I am not familiar with Jerry Maurey but I could understand the sentiment that he underperformed. As a 4-time PA state champion, there is an expectation of NCAA titles and if you don't win any . . . It's like the argument that greatness is based on Super Bowl, World Series or NBA titles. I don't necessarily agree, but I do understand why people would consider that.

He had a brother that I think won two titles. His nephew - Ken Whitesell - had a good run (not for Clearfield) in the late 70's. Need to research what school he was at...

Ohh I like the having to move up a weight class if you're a defending champ. Wish more guys would do that in both hs and college.
Dake=goat lol

...the next weight I guess would have been back at the beginning at 103 lbs!!!... Jes kidding... I would think that there was an exception... I’ll go back and check the history...

His brother Don was a three time state champion and his oldest brother Jim won one title. All three wrestled at Penn State with some success.

Jerry Maurey was before my time, but there is nobody who followed wrestling during Maurey's time who did not believe Maurey was a great and successful Penn State wrestler.
Anybody believing differently lends credence to HR's take that we have a few fans who believe rasslin was invented in April 2009.

Penn State always had good teams. Instead of invent, I prefer to use "the Renaissance" began in 2009 with the artists C,C&C.

Also, another accolade is that Jerry Mauey took 3rd place in the 1956 Olympics. Had Jerry as my coach on freshman wrestling team at Bloomsburg in 1967
