He was the most important Freshman to play on Alabama's 2014 SEC-Championship team. Nick Saban usually gives the punter scholarship to a recruited walk-on who wins the job, but after seeing Scott's HUDL film, he recruited the Colorado kid hard and got his signature. Punting high and far, JK changed the field in at least 4 SEC games. Should have won the Ray Guy award.

the punter from Alabama last year was amazing. The few times I saw him play, including the OSU game, he was a difference maker. He had some great punts against OSU. I don't ever recall seeing a punter punt that well(not that I would say I'm an expert on college punters) but his talent and skill were impossible to not notice.

According to Phil Steele, Scott, the Alabama punter, was ranked as the #4 punter in the country when recruited. Hmmmm ... Gillikin is rated the #4 punter in the country this year. Sounds good to me.

FWIW, the comparisons petty much end there.

Agreed.

But he isn't being asked to be Scott. He's being asked to be better than what we are currently doing. If he is, then it's an upgrade.

Agree completely, though others seem to have other (unrealistic) expectations
