The very same Joel Klatt who left PSU out of his top 25, then was big enough to admit it was a mistake. He has argued consistently that preseason rankings carry too much weight.

i think that is a little much for PSU with the schedule to date. Beat Iowa and Michigan and then Top 5 is a real argument.

Ohio State looks to be Top 2 definitely and a playoff team. Smacking down MSU and a destroying a decent Cincinnati squad. Bama and OSU have looked the best. LSU has a nice win but hasn't played anybody else but looks good. Clemson hasn't found their way yet but you can tell if they do are going to be tough. Wiscy lurking in the background.

All of those folks who should care one iota about what Joel Klatt thinks about "rankings" (or anything else):

th

I think I see Mama Klatt peeking out from behind the curtains in the back.

Well, at least we have a chance to prove it one way or the other on the field.

Pitt is pretty solid defensively but this should be a step up. If the offense can sustain drives and execute Saturday night, that would be big.

All true. Except Wisconsin...their QB play is Division 2-sequel.

Penn State needs to win against quality competition and it will climb in the rankings. We have the skill players but not too sure of the OL at this point.

Well said. I would add Georgia with Ohio State/Bama and say we'll find out about Oklahoma soon. There's a clear divide between the top tier teams and the second group this year. A huge gap IMO.

Based on their current resumes, LSU >>tosu. At least les Tigers have a top 10 win...who exactly has the buckeyes beaten?

Michigan state isn’t chopped liver and Cincinnati is ranked 25. Have you watched OSU this year? They are crushing everybody. They look pretty awesome and as much as we all want Fields to fail, he has been a perfect fit for Day’s offense and is playing lights out.

Playoff teams this year: Clemson, Alabama, Oklahoma, and the winningest CF team of all-time, Michigan

In any given year, the divide between the 2-4 best teams and the next tier is huge. The primary difference the last 4: Clemson and Bama have had zero drop off. No fresh teams really. UGA and Oklahoma have been close but for different reasons than Bama/Clemson. OSU has been the top B10 team save for one year, but they have cannibalized losses that just don't seem possible.

We've been 1 loss too many to test the waters with the playoff two of the last three years. I'm not going to vouch and say we could have won a single playoff game, but damnit it'd have been fun to try it.

They should have shown the whole segment. Watched this last night and after he went on that lame rant and said PSU would be top 5 he showed his top ten and PSU was nowhere to be seen and Texas was like number 7. He makes no sense.

We have a case, but there is a lot of work to be done. Real season starts this Saturday.

WE ARE!!!

We haven't played anyone. We will get railroaded by tOSU. We won't win more than 2/3 for Iowa, UM, or MSU games. This team will be playoff ready by next year.

Sparty is sparty and Cincinnati is....well....Cincinnati. Yes, I’ve see tosu play. Just like every September, they crush it early, then choke when they play someone with a pulse. They may very well be better than LSU, but beating sparty and the bearcats doesn’t do anything to prove it.

Oh, and btw, how the hell does Oklahoma keep convincing voters they’re a legit top 5 team? They’re the only team that has choked more in big games than tosu.

Traditionally, Klatt’s not been a fan of Penn St. He’s a PAC 12 guy, former QB at Colorado.

I think when you see what he said- it’s more to add something new to the discussion. Everyone is getting bored to death with the repeated Clemson and Alabama reserved playoff spots with 2 of Oklahoma, Georgia, and Ohio State getting the last 2 spots.

It’s not that he thinks PSU is really a top 5 team (see his top 10 rankings that don’t include PSU). It’s just a new take to liven up the stale discussion.

Klatt argues that Penn State should be in the top 5, then they show a list of his top 10 and we aren't in it.......right.

I’m convinced everyone is battling for one spot...Bama, Clemson and Oklahoma are in, that leaves one spot for everyone else. The only way to get in outside of being in the SEC is to go undefeated.

Here’s an interesting scenario...Georgia goes undefeated, LSU beats Bama and their only loss comes in the SEC championship game to Georgia...everyone else has one loss. In that scenario I think for the first time we see three SEC teams in the CFP. Georgia, Bama, LSU and Clemson...now that’s exciting.

And yet, Fan Boys still get all masturbatory whenever these carnival barkers - including Klatt, Herbie, and the cadre of pimps - say something “positive” about their team......
And react like a scorned un-orgasmed woman when they “throw shade” on their team.

LOL
I’m not sure what a scorned, un-orgasmed woman looks like...I’ve never seen that.:)
