June 15th - Cael's first visit 2025 class?

The Big Red beat us on Shapiro , really hoping they don’t repeat that with the Duke
Yes. Big red has a pretty amazing record with identifying and capturing some of the 'best' of the generational kids. Dake, Yanni, Vito (until this year he had underperformed vs where I thought he would be), Shapiro... All guys that many thought could compete for a championship as a freshman. Cael is right there as well with his own long(er) list, but Cornell's success with the most elite is a bit frustrating. To hear Duke is strong on PSU and Cornell has that smell to it. I hope we get him.

Dake, Yianni, Vito - all NY kids. Shapiro is MD, but ended up at Wyoming Sem when Scott Green was there - pretty strong NY connection as well.
Duke is a NY kid and projects to a weight range where we have A LOT of young talent log jammed. Cornell is probably the #1 alternative to PSU right now if you have international aspirations. Cornell is also Ivy which likely means the financials will be fine.

I'm not sure how you can be frustrated about losing NY kids to them. It makes a lot of sense.

The academics can be a deciding factor, PSU has slid in the USNEWS rankings to 77 and Cornell sits at 17.

Dake went to Cornell before Cael came to PSU.

So many ways to go with this ...

Cael has landed more recruits from NY than from PA D11.

Van Ness was all in on Cornell, until Cael persisted. And Bartlett was going Ivy until Cael offered.

And most importantly: Cael has the banners.

There seem to be some snakes in the grass in D11. I know it’s a big ND hotbed for football, so maybe that transfers over to some sort of aversion to PSU in other sports. Then there’s that crazy assistant coach I outed from Nazareth on Facebook who was more anti psu than Ironbird.

And maybe that’s not that big a deal since we’re winning a ton anyway and getting recruits that routinely hammer the top guys coming out of D11

Cael recruits better than anyone no doubt. I am just plain greedy and want them all. Total world domination!

The past 12 months has me most satisfied, what a run.

That aside, given few needs, who's door do you think Cael knocked on this morning?

Hopefully none. June 15th is first day coaches may contact recruits. August 1st is the first day of off-campus coach visits.

this isnt directed at you...and I understand this is a message board....but anyone that has a gripe or complaint about our recruiting is just an unhappy person in general.

The staff nail it down every season. Do they miss a few.... sure. But again anyone that has a complaint needs to get on meds or have them adjusted.

If they are unhappy in any way......I mean they could be happy to be an iowa hawkeye fan

Or greedy as hell, with little consideration for what's best for the wrestlers.

Financially, going to Cornell makes sense. They can give financial aid that covers everything vs. PSU giving a partial scholarship. Plus it's Ivy vs. PSU academically.

I don't see the big deal with landing any D11 guys, or even having the well poisoned a bit. I'm born/raised/graduated from D11 Northampton. Pretty decent history of wrestling at our school. It was part of Gym Class about 50% of the time it seemed. I was hoping that PSU would go after Julian Chlebove or Condomitti, just to have a Koncrete Kid on the team. But I wouldn't trade any of our starters for them. Mikey Labriola? We got much better. Sammy Sasso? Possibly, but we wouldn't have Van Ness then. Darian Cruz at 125? Nope as that overlapped with Nico I believe. And Jordon Oliver was pre Cael as well. Not certain if I'm missing anyone in the Cael era that had better credentials over 2-4 years.

Unless I missed any changes. Financial aid is based on family income. Son played Ivy. We paid for everything. Mom stressed the academics. Passed on rides elsewhere. Paid off. Attorney for top law firm.

If you're of somewhat average income and they want you you can get ma lot of financial help at an Ivy.

I think you can add Cenzo too

Cael gets who he wants. Pretty simple. Most will not resist and why would they. He’s the GOAT. And with more in the tank. 5 finalists are the norm now. He wants more!

As you mentioned, Oliver pre-dated Cael. Sunderland recruited him, and his mom wanted him to attend PSU, but getting far away from his extended family (and its drug issues) was absolutely the correct decision.

Here are all D11 state champs since Cael came to PSU:

You're right, Nico dominated Cruz in college. Chlebove was never a consideration after his year-long HS suspension.

A few others not on your list:
- Josh Kindig (OKST): supposedly wanted to attend PSU, but same weight as the Altons; landed in Smith's doghouse for partying
- Mike Racciato (Pitt): recruited by PSU; off-the-mat issues in college and died way too young
- Ethan Lizak (Goofers): recruited by PSU; same weight as Nico; involved in the Xanax scandal
- Aaron Bradley (Iowa): recruited by PSU; never wrestled in college, quit the sport after Mormon mission
- Ryan Anderson (Iowa State): academic issues, transferred to D3
- Ryan Crookham (Lehigh): recruited by PSU
