Well, you didn't lie.

Berge is looking good. "Vincenzo" like hips on deep shots, and quick on his own shots, with good finishes. Between him, and the freshmen 125, 133, should easily surpass the points lost with Zain’s departure.

Can Berge make 149 all year? He looks big

Way too early to make that claim, with a bunch of significant unanswered questions at this point:
  • Can Teasdale make 125 all season without it affecting his performance?
  • Same question as above for Berge at 149.
  • Does Teske need a redshirt year?
  • How many NCAA team points can realistically be expected of Teasdale or RBY, in what looks to be a stacked weight class at 133?
Retherford was pretty close to a lock for 25-28 points at NCAAs. IMO, it's not clear at all that PSU will "easily surpass" that point total in 2019, though the potential to do so is there.

Berge does look big, but if he can stay down we will equal last year's points or better. maybe I am too optimistic but I think Its a lock that we get more points from 197 & heavy, not to mention125 and 133.

Berge is going to be a "jumbo" 149#er. If he can manage the weight, he'll be right in the mix IMHO.

Pump the breaks a bit. As I recall....last year we were a lock to score more points at heavyweight. That didn't happen. We were also supposedly a lock to score as many ...if not more from the 5 champs from the previous year. The fact is that every one of the 5 champs scored less this past year than the previous year....ie Retherford was -3, Nolf was -4, Joseph -2, Hall -2, Nickal -4.5. That means the 5 2017 National Champs score 15.5 LESS points this past year. The NCAAs are unpredictable to say the least. I am very much looking forward to watching the 7 returning All-Americans PLUS the 3 new faces we will see next year. I will refrain from using the word "lock" for any true freshman or anyone at '41, '97 or HWT as well as any weight Zahid is at this year. Certainly optimistic though :)

If Teasdale AAs next year, I will eat a shoe.
I am currently of the opinion that 125 is too tight of a sustained cut for Teasdale, and Teske and RBY will man 125 and 133 for the Lions this season.
However, your post has me hoping I am mistaken and Gavin puts you in a shoe gnawing, swallowing position. Even when you post what I and others perceive to be unnecessary negative comments, I appreciate your contributions. So with that thought in mind I will purchase you a new (cheap) pair of shoes to eat, so you will not have to gnaw while holding your nose. It should also help control a post meal stomach evacuation.

Why make such a negTIVE prediction, before the kid even starts at PS?

It's a very reasonable prediction, though the way it was stated was perhaps a bit inflammatory. But get past that, and it's a reasonable statement.

Down through the years I can think of 2 wrestlers in the 9 years who could not pull the weight cut: Alton and Shak. Shak is fine now and is no longer an issue, so scratch Shak. That leaves Andrew Alton.

Is it really that much of a trauma that there seems to be a continuing concern about every single kid who isn't small for the weight? If Cael thinks Berge and Teasdale are fine at 125, then I'm good with that. Not sure where the constant worry is coming from that they are "too big" for the weight. Was Zahid Valencia too big for the weight? He's the biggest 174 pounder I've ever seen in my life and it looks like he's coming back and staying at 174 next season also. I think Berge and Gavin will be a-ok at 149 and 125 respectively.

So are you saying the staff is really good at recognizing a kid's proper weight, or that the PSU wrestlers and staff as a rule of thumb manage their weights and cutting very effectively, or a combination of both.

My personal opinion is Berge will be just fine at 149. He doesn't look any bigger than Zain. However, Teasdale I do think will struggle with 125. I think part of his occasional struggles this year were weight related. So by November my belief is Teske will be the 125 pounder, and RBY will be 133.

I also believe all 3 will be very good right out of the gate and while all 3 will improve steadily the first two will improve dramatically as the season progresses.

I think eventually it will be Teasdale wrestling 141, like year 2019-20.

Now that I shared my belief of what will happen I would like to acknowledge I never thought Zain would start his freshman season, I never believed Ohio State would be tough enough to win a national team championship, i never thought it was possible Suriano would leave, or the Big10 would grant a wavier and my biggest wrong of all was I never believed until they announced it that Cael freaking Sanderson would take the Penn State job.

So there is definitely a greater than small chance I am wrong about 125, 133, 141 (eventual) and 149.

You pale in comparison to some of my calls, such as Lizak winning the title next year at 133. So, chill, you're just fine. LOL.

I won't say easily. If they come within five of what Zain did, I'll be happy. That said, I expect 141, 197, and heavy to do better next year.

You have a point. Why should we ever listen to a word you say? :p

Joseph will never hold 165 for a full season. And, if he does he'll be so weak, he'll never AA for PSU.

Can you do one of these for the senior team listing their University and possibly the club they are currently with?

Pump the brakes? I think not. 2018 was quite unusual, in that both tOSU & Iowa out bonused us. I think we come back stronger in that department next year across many weight classes. So you think there is a legit chance Nick Nevills does worse next year, Shakir too? Shack had that match won only to give it away with seconds to go. I think not again. Both should be near locks for top 4. You have been drinking too much of lemonpie's lemonade

I hope Nick Nevills is healthy. That's two years in a row where he was out there at Nationals, wrestling with one arm. It's going to be interesting with Cassar possibly moving up, at least we have an insurance plan, outside of pulling the redshirt off of young Snacks, which is highly unlikely no matter what

Lumping me in with Lemonpie…...that is cold...….like -273 Kelvin cold. I simply used last year's facts to illustrate that there is no such thing as a sure lock.....that "easily surpassing" should probably be avoided. Do I think Nevills will score less this year? No.....I'm pretty optimistic he will score more......but I wouldn't bet my house on it. Same with Shak.....with slightly less optimism. As far as the 3 new guys......I closed with "Optimistic"......but even less certain. All three could be AAs and still score less than Retherford averaged. Just being realistic....certainly not negative. Cautious Optimism I think covers it.

Don't think there is any trauma here, just a couple guys asking questions. But nice exaggeration/dramatization.

And, not that it matters, but Shak cutting weight is no longer an issue because he didn't have to cut ANY weight for 197. But it was definitely an issue when he was trying to go at 165, which by all accounts was a pretty massive cut for him.

All that said, I tend to agree that Berge will be okay at 149; we just need to see it. But, like others, I have reservations about Teasdale's long-term effectiveness at 125.

Little early to make such statements. Nobody would have predicted Cenzo would be a 2 time NCCA champ by now, Shakur would wrestle at 197 and AA , Lee would finish 5th. Just a little early before a kid evens wrestles one match for PS. To do so , to me, is not reasonable statement. Gavin is a talent. Let's just see what happens when the season starts. .

I predicted Brands would be fired after this season after another down year. Bold predictions are usually, well, wrong.

If you had access to the 3" binder you would have known not to make such a prediction.
