Just showed Franklin at the wrestling match. Said that it was a near record crowd.

Eng you don't look a day over 68. Glad you are still working and seem happy about it. Life with love and a purpose is generally the best medicine for a long one.

Ya... or a sign of debt in some cases or perhaps the inability to enjoy retirement. I have worked for 13 years when I could have retired at age 55 (In my case, I am an A type dumb ass).

WSJ article today. Avg student debt of those over 60 is $33,800. Yep Felli you read this correctly . Largely as a result of paying for their kids education. So you are probably more of a smart ass Rip.

I'm getting old....70 shortly
.....
The sig below is with one of my granddaughters in the 2017 season.
Step I hope you have another 70. I am getting there and now entering into a part of my life where the debate begins. When should I retire? You seem to be a good man based on our interactions on this board. Looking to many more years of conversations.

I paid for my education, all 20 years of it. I told my kids you get scholarships and work and pay for your education, no matter what you do. I Graduated in 1977 from PSU and paid off my one student loan by 1978. So, yes. I am a smart ass but still a dumb ass.

Tru dat. Some of that, and also adults returning to education during the recession around 2007. Poor money management.

...and some of those got retrained and are working in new fields and paying off their debt. Some actually are better off. Many never expected to live as long as they have. The gross mismanagement of government regualtory duties in the late 90's and early 2000's caught a lot of people off guard.

SMH. I keep thinking that ten, fifteen years from now we’re really going to be facing a crisis. Just too many things converging simultaneously.

Youngsters. I just turned 71.
Happy birthday you old curmudgeon..

Old, cranky, and more than a little stubborn, a curmudgeon is the gruff, grey-haired neighbor who refuses to hand out candy at Halloween and shoos away holiday carolers with a "bah humbug!" As fickle and stubborn as the type of person it describes, curmudgeon comes to us without a history, its origins undisclosed.

I'm working full time to help the grand kids through school. The oldest one is on hiiatus
from med school and waiting for admission to a different school, one is finishing PSU law this spring, their sister is transferring to main as a junior, one of my grand kids from Alabama (the one in my sig) was staying with us this past year and will be entering the main campus this fall and her sister is in pre-med @ South Alabama.

No MAN toys for me any time soon. :p

Not for me either. I have a disabled son that requires me to keep rowing. Though I am not sure I could not have done a better job at that by retiring and not over extending myself. Such is life.

Our contributions for helping the grandkids for the past 9 years is a few grand north of that figure ( per year). Not exaggerating, just one of the many turns in life.
You’ve mentioned this obliquely in the past. In response, let me once again remark on how special your sign pic is. There’s no way that girl will ever let you down.

"Life and love with a purpose..." truer words were never spoken.....I married the love of my life, the girl I fell in love with at age 12. But 37 years of marriage and the challenges of life, I am ashamed to say, so many years I wasted. If you are married to "the one......" don't pass up the opportunity to make her know she's special. Going on ten years and I regret every day the times I took for granted. I could never have imagined how empty my life would be.

I'm still working, but unbelievable, YES. God bless Rip, you do understand..

step, I've found that the key to aging gracefully, and well, is working out. ;)

YOU'RE close to the age, actually I won't be 70 for four months. Actually the picture with one of my grandkids was at a game in 2017, when is was 68. :(
I'm 58, same church, different pew. I thought you looked more like 60 from your pic.
Although my eyes are going.

I have been practicing law for 45 years and, good Lord willing, intend to keep going for another 10 years or so. I keep chasing the dreams of my youth and, unfortunately, many of them take more money than I can afford to spend, so I carry on. I enjoy what I am doing, and I've very good at it, but, given the choice, I would likely put the law behind me and chase dreams full time.

I “skimmed” that article over coffee this AM. There were a few stories of folks who tried to change career paths that were very sad. The WSJ recently had an article dedicated exclusively to parents who are broke after paying for their children’s education(s) and their children aren’t even helping them at all. Ungrateful bastages!

The student loan terms provided by our government are predatory at best and would be deemed criminal if any other financial institution provided similar lending terms. This story doesn’t get the exposure it should.
