Juwan Johnson

anyone know if he is injured. He didn't play. Was hearing a lot of talk about him being very talented would think he would see the field sometimes
Juwan was out there for 24 snap counts, twice as many as he's had in previous games. 247 has a list of players and their snap counts on both sides of the ball. Paris Palmer was the only one to have 63 of 63 snap counts.

Seems that Charles is ahead of him.

Charles is playing a different position. If they keep improving, both will should be starters as JRs, assuming no one leaving early or injuries. PT will increase next year I am sure.

Is he the absolutely huge WR? There's one of them who sticks out physically like Lavar used to on special teams

I'm pretty sure he got the start with Tompkins injured and Hamilton (for whatever reason) missing the first few series.

I thought down around the red zone he may get some looks because of his size. He's going to be a great player but will have to be patient with guys like Godwin, Blacknall and Hamilton.

The talent PSU has at WRs (all returning for 2017) is among the deepest and most talented in the country.

Probably. He also wears #11. Was a beast on special teams against UMd.

He was excellent in the MD game but he is kind of a player on the edge. He should have had a flag for taunting yesterday and I think he came close to getting one once before. And even with his awesome game against MD he's been flagged for holding at least 4 times on special teams. He just needs to reign it in a little. Has a ton of potential.

As others said, he played at WR, but he also plays on Special Teams and is often in on the tackle on KO returns and punt returns. He mixes it up pretty good in that role.
He will get his shot at more playing time at WR if he is patient and continues to work and be a great teammate.

Against Maryland he made a really good play on a kick to Likely. At the end of the tackle he held on to Likely's leg and flipped him up and back right after the whistle. He was not called for a penalty, but it was unnecessary. I see other players do that quite a bit. Although it is rarely if ever called, seems like it is a potential unsportsmanlike penalty and most definitely unnecessary. He and a few others were on the edge against UMd and PSU was lucky not to get a 15 yarder at some point on special teams in that game. Bad blood out there for sure.

Why? Because Charles has 2 catches and has made a couple special teams plays? We have 2 very talented redshirt freshmen WR's that will lead our passing game once Godwin and Blacknall are gone. Great that Polk is redshirting and will have 3 years to play as well. CJF will get a 3rd WR in the 2017 class and the WR corps will be pretty much set for a good while.....

The receiving corps is solid for a couple or years. Lots of experienced players with eligibility left.

Are you sure Polk is redshirting? He has played this year.

What is DeAndre Thompkins status? Serious injury after OSU game? He was a big play maker the first half of the seaon.

He is injured, and hasn't played (presumably due to the injury) since game #4 .....so - assuming he doesn't return later in the year - he would QUALIFY for a red-shirt.

But that's nothing that could be determined definitively until the season is completed.

Given the play in the OSU game - and his reaction to it - would be very surprised if his issue was not a concussion.

That being the case.....always better to hold a kid out for as much time as necessary until he is for sure 100% recovered.

Pretty sure JF has already said he's redshirting.

Juwon Johnson actually started the game at WR with Hamilton and Godwin. I don't think he had a ball thrown his way but he played a lot.

Actually, Johnson started with Godwin and Blacknall with Godwin in the slot. Hamilton appeared to be serving a one qtr suspension for something. Stevens overthrew Johnson once.

Unless/Until the medical staff signs off that he was "unable to participate due to injury"......CJF can say whatever he wants.

Now....from a practical standpoint, if CJF pushes the issue (it that is even necessary) would he get cooperation? I would think so

U Mich had a situation a few years back, where Devin G (IIRC) had played a bit, then got banged up, but was certainly healthy enough to play later in the season.
They held him out (I think it would have been DickRod - but could have been "early-Hoke")....and later claimed he was injured and unable to participate - and therefore was granted a RS.
The "letter of the law" wrt red-shirting says that's not permissible.....but I doubt anyone raised a stink

I am NOT saying this is in any way the situation wrt Polk - I would have absolutely no way of knowing that.....just clarifying a bit wrt the "Redshirt Rules"
