I am in the process of down sizing as my home in Williamsburg, VA is just too big. The next step is reducing some clutter so I can get new rugs and flooring laid down. I came across a box that was unopened for who knows how long. In it was a mix of personal stuff and tons of old letters, bills, receipts etc.
I found a jewel among the letters. I worked in the Boston area as a first job after finishing grad school at the University of Penn State. The Penn State Club of Greater Boston hosted a evening with Joe Paterno on February 6, 1979. The dinner with tax and gratuity was the princely sum of $8.50. Of course I jumped at the chance to listen to what Joe had to say.
The timing of the evening is interesting--only a month after the crushing loss in the NCG to Alabama 14 to 7. I have been trying to remember what remarks Joe made that evening but have drawn a blank. Though I would share this with the Board, for what its worth.
