Every year I provide one person’s view of PSU’s keys to success. The make-up, or strengths of each year’s team are different, and the same can be said about other teams. Here’s my list for 2018;

1) Number of champs. We need the big points from winning a weight class.

2) Number of silver medalists. Along with several, say 3, champs, another couple of runner-ups are needed.

3) Other placers. You may ask, “is Roar nuts?”. He just made his top 3 all similar. All I can say is “yep, it’s that important”.
I will always have bonus points on my list, but this year, with the talent on the Buckeye team...placements first, IMO.

4) Bonus point differential. A 10 point edge over the closest competition would be awesome. I’m hoping for at least an 8-point edge.

Don't disagree. I'm hoping for a team event - meaning everyone scores and starts 2 and 0! Can be done but very tough.

With all the known talent on our team and how tough Ohio State will be ,we shall assume that the team points score might come down to less than 10 points.
Oddly enough with the above thought ,I think the difference could be how well Lee and Rasheed perform. Their points could be the difference.

Just for the sake of discussion...if Zain, Nolf and Nickal win titles, Cenzo and Hall finish 2nd and Nevills takes 3rd, is that enough to win the title regardless of what else happens?

No. We'd need bonus points, Keener points, or Nick Lee wrestling better than seed. In that scenario with all others wrestling to seed, we'd be at 122 to Ohio State's 125.

Last year those 6 totalled 138 points (5 first and 1 fifth). Assuming similar bonus points, your scenario probably brings us somewhere between 130-135.

That, by itself, might be enough, but if Lee, Shak and Keener can add 12 -20 points the Bucks will have a hard time matching us.

That should rack up enough points, but your qualifier of whatever else happens leaves room for OSU to match our number of champs and out AA us. So if OSU hit the perfect shytstorm they could still outpace the Nits.

I expect a typical PSU NCAA performance. Ie, Better than everybody else.

That would put PSU at 105.5 without bonus and points from the other 3 wrestlers. Figure 125 to 130 in that scenario, would still most likely need more points to win it unless Ohio State shytes the bed.

One key is Nick Lee going 2-0 on Thursday. If not, he must beat one of the following barring an upset in the blood round to reach the podium: McKenna/Jack or Heil/Yanni. Brutal.

Key pieces of information:
1. Going into the tournament, based upon seed, Ohio State has a 12.5 point cushion on PSU (124.5 to 112).
2. Last year PSU scored 32.5 bonus points to Ohio State's 23, 11.5 point difference, PSU probably will not have that much of an advantage this year.
3. In the last 7 NCAA tournaments, PSU has out wrestled its seed by an average of 9 points each year. Ohio State has out wrestled their seed by 5 points each year.
4. Combine 1, 2 and 3 it is close to a dead heat.

3 Keys for PSU (trying to pick individual wrestlers):
1. Nolf has to be at least 90%, this allows Jason to win it and still pick up significant bonus especially on Thursday
2. Nick Lee must go 2-0 on Thursday
3. Shak must wrestle relaxed and reach the podium.
I am assuming the hammers come through like they always do.

3 keys for Ohio State
1. Moore must reach the finals, sluggish February and his #1 seed seemed generous
2. McKenna, which one shows up, the guy who finished 3rd as a freshmen or the guy who failed to reach the podium last year
3. Pletcher to live up to his seed. Based upon his record, the seed is justified, wrestles a lot of very close matches.

Pletcher = Heil

-won't bonuses many
-keeps it close
-wins the close ones
-booooring

I understand Heil is going for his third, and Pletcher may never win a title. I'm just talking about style and impact.

I never listen to them, always JB, but isnt there one about laces up? Is that a good thing or bad thing?

32.5 - 23 = 11.5?! Not busting on you just wondering what the correct info is

EDIT: in response to Lyons212 above. Forgot to quote his post

How about we just sit back as fans and enjoy the action Win or Lose Roar and be proud of the kids representing PSU is such a great way
If nothing else, this thread was a nice distraction away from another thread with an irrelevant topic.
