Offense
obviously starts with Cliff. We don’t need another Auburn type performance, though that would be nice. We just need him to take care of the ball and not turn into the turnover machine he was for much of last year. I think his legs will play a big role today in picking up first downs. In short yardage I expect we will see more plays run toward the edge with read option. We just have not be3n able to get any push up the gut so try something different. Cliff is going to have to be patient today and not try to force balls into coverage. The tight ends down the seam should be their all day if he looks for it. MY will try to put the safeties in conflict with the wideouts and the tiget ends. Cliff will just need to make the right read. If it isn’t there just throw it away and live for the next play. our defense will hold them in check so the offense needs to be patient
is this the day Dotson steps into the Heisman race? Lots of eyeballs on this game today. He could make a huge statement r3ceiving but I also look for him to have a big punt return, or two.
stoudt can be a major weapon punting. Make Iowa go the length of the field. I’m not sure iowa can do that consistently against this defense. But stoudt cannot miss any short field goals. Historically Iowa let’s you move into fg position but scoring tds is tough. We can’t give up points by missing field goals
on kickoffs I hope the team is actually ready to make a tackle. Kicking into the wind may allow for a return or two and I can’t r3call our kick off team doing anything other than racing each other down the field. Might actually have to tackle someone today
defense
i think pry needs to dial back the blitzes today. As someone earlier this week po8nted out, a significant % of Iowa passes are under 10 yards. That means most blitzes won’t have time to get home. I would rather see if our line can get pressure against the Iowa young online and let the linebackers clog up that 10yard box. Force them into longer throws where maybe we can make a play and get a pick. For the poster who has been counting the weeks since our last in conference pick 6, this may be the week
I do expect Iowa to test fields. Last week he bit on the out and up, and that isn’t the first time. Look for Iowa to try that once or twice.
if I am pry this week I might stress to the db’s to make sure you keep everything in front of you. Almost mirror Iowa in that sense. If we don’t give up big plays, I don’t see this Iowa offense driving the length of the field against this defense too many times
27-13. Good guys
