I am reading where he might become the highest paid player in the league. The guy is a decent NFL QB, nothing more. How is he so highly sought after and looking at making Top 3 in the league money. Just from a QB perspective alone he had the 15 highest QB rating last year. What am i missing?

Have you seen the other QBs in the league?
Decent QBs almost never reach the free agent market. If he was just resigning with a team he wouldn't be worth that but this will be a bidding war. Cousins is far better than what a lot of teams currently have.
Denver and Buffalo definitely need him

I like Kirk cousins. He have a great speech at the big ten banquet awards his senior year.

As a Redskins fan, it's why I was happy with the Alex Smith trade. In the salary cap era, I don't see the path to winning as paying the ~10th-12th best QB in the league over 30 million/year (and making him the highest paid player).

It's also why I think Cleveland's better off drafting a QB and using their cap space to fill other holes than signing one. The QB market, as Joe would have said, is "out of whack" today.

Somewhere Brock Osweiler is having a good laugh. Too many GMs nowadays think paying a QB big money will somehow make him better even if he hasn't won squat. It shows how desperate some teams are to find their "guy".

And what happens if Cleveland takes Mayfield or Allen or Darnold and they get another Kizer, Weeden, McCoy, Manziel, Quinn, Couch, etc. They absolutely, IMO, need to sign someone that's proven. Missing on another early round QB simply kills them. There is no Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning or John Elway in this draft. I'm not even convinced there's a Jared Goff or Carson Wentz.

Maybe Bernie Kosar can whip himself into shape.

This is how watered-down the NFL has become. People blame declining viewership because of the politicization of the national anthem movement, but I think it's because the product has become so weak. Hell, if the Eagles are winning a Superbowl, something is definitely wrong.

Kirk is a decent QB, but they are throwing around number as Top 3 salaries in the league. He is nowhere near a Top 3 QB, let alone Top 3 player in the entire NFL. I just dont' get these GM's in the NFL, you would think they would learn from Brock Osweiler and other horrible contracts.

I like Kirk living here in the DC Metro area. (Eagle fan though).

I think he’s going to be disappointed when Free agency starts and he doesn’t get what he thinks he’s going to get. I think the Redskins realized what we are saying that he’s good but not worth 30 Million a year.

Hope he’s happy where he lands.

That's the nature of NFL QB contracts at the moment. The most recent QB with a pulse to sign an extension will be the highest paid player in the league.

I read where the Falcons were preparing to shower Matt Ryan with a $30 million per year contract. Ryan is good, but not great, IMO, he's led some great game-winning drives but he's thrown some untimely interceptions as well. NFL owners just seem to have too much money burning a hole in their pocket and can't wait to throw it at a guy that they think is a superstar, even if he isn't.

I'm right there with you. I think he's ok but nowhere near what he will be getting paid. I mean if thats the case then Tom and Ben are woefully underpaid.

In my opinion he’s a better option short term than any of the quarterback options in the draft.

The question is...would you rather Kirk Cousins at 31 million for the next 4 years, or a rookie QB at 7 million and another 24 million to build the rest of the team?

For me, thats an easy answer. The Rook. Isn't Case Keenum supposed to be on the market? I would take him over Cousins if the price was right.

That's not the question
The question is do you want Cousins at the price or hope that you actually pick a guy that could be as good or better than him. These QBs in this draft aren't locks.
I'd take Cousins, Barkley and Fitzpatrick then throw a party

If every QB was getting a new contract at once Cousins wouldn't be near the top but when the salary cap keeps going up then QBs keep getting more and whoever is the good QB getting a new contract at the moment gets more than any QB has previously gotten. The QBs better than him are already bound to contracts.

From what I read, Aaron Rodgers may renegotiate soon so if Cousins becomes the top paid player it won't be for long.

And you won’t have to pay 30 per to get Cousins.
Well, maybe Cleveland will

Agree with this strategy 100%.

it would depend on the team. Can we win now with out run game and defense (Bills, Cards) or is it a complete rebuild (Cleveland) in one case pay the man his money, in the other I agree with you.

I'm sorry...I can't see anyway Cleveland can draft a QB at 1-4 and not be a joke. Personally, I hope Baker Mayfield goes #1. Saquon goes 2. Chubb or Fitzpatrick go 3. Then Cleveland panics thinking they were going to get Barkley at 4 and they trade down. That's Cleveland-esque right there

They could have had Carson Wentz but Cleveland that one.

I'm thinking Denver.

Serious question, I'm not a big NFL fan, what's the difference between Cousins and Foles?? One guy I believe will cost 30M, the other I believe is signed for 7.6M, that's lots of cap room.

That one guy is already signed while the other is a free agent that will have teams bidding on him. Plus Cousins has a longer/better track record. I don't understand why people are having trouble comprehending why Cousins is going to get a ton of money

Not a question of t

Not about the money as a free agent, question is: How much better is Cousins than Foles. If you could get Foles for draft picks, Eagles don't have a 2 and a 3, would you as opposed to targeting Cousins at 30M, BTW, not sure eagles would accept that.

There is NO questions about how much better Cousins is than Foles. Not a thought anyone is having. If Cleveland traded for Foles they'd likely still take a QB in the first and they'd be losing draft picks. Foles shouldn't be on anyone's radar other anyone's radar until Cousins is signed by someone. And Philly isn't trading Foles with the uncertainty involving Wentz

Starting QBs don't become free agents at 30 years old often in the NFL. This is why Cousins will cash in

So it took them two years driving his price up and screwing over every other nfl team by franchising him two years and paying him 24 mil a year because they figured he wasn’t worth 30 when the coulda signed him for less than 20 the two years prior? Makes sense in Redskin logic.

Hindsight is 20/20. He probably didn't do enough heading into 2016 to deserve the price he wanted. Otherwise, you end up closing your eyes and hoping that you get Kirk Cousins level performance and now Brock Osweiler level.

No question Cousins is better than Foles?? No question?? Who holds the NFL record for TD passes in a game? Who threw 27 Tds vs 9 int in a year??
No question? Really ?
