This can't be true, because Herstreit hates Penn State and purposely says negative things about Penn State that he doesn't believe to be true. I guess this must mean that he really thinks Penn State is one of the top three teams, but due to his hatred, he moved us down to 4th place. That is the last straw! I am going to burn my cable box and move to Tibet....
Pretty sure the P in #4 is a typo. Should be an O. Easy mistake to make on the keyboard.
Herbie got what he wanted by pounding the table for OSU to get into the playoffs and passing the vaunted "looks test", then given their subsequent beatdown, he can now be a little more honest in his opinions.Herbie with all things OSU right now...
He was. And anybody can make top 25 lists nine months out. He'll be singing quite a different story when the season rolls around again, no doubt on that. But hey, whatever gets those orange hard hats on the adoring crowds on Saturday when the circus train pulls into town. That's the important thing.
Well, some of you still don't see the obvious: by naming Penn State as a top 5 team, he accomplishes 3 things:
1. he makes fans who don't see through his schtick believe he is impartial
2. he sets up the expected win over the Lions in Columbus as evidence of how good his buckeyes are
3. should PSU lose a game earlier than the one in Columbus, he sets up Penn State and Franklin as "underachievers"
This nonsense is right out of Beano Cook's book on how to diss Penn State (and JoePa, in Cook's case) without making it obvious to the casual fan.
Try it with your Pitt friends. Call them "unstoppable" on offense and "national title contenders"; then rag on them after their first loss. You can play the "Well, I really thought you'd be great this year, but I guess I was wrong" card. Cook did it annually ... Herbstreit employs it whenever Penn State poses a challenge to OSU.

Thanks for making the effort OB. My thoughts also, but I'm "slow" at typing and a real effort w/two fingers. That's taking the bone clean out of the ham. Oh, I'm also "slow" at other activities like, take for instance, cunnilingus.

Yes they need to capture the synergy of a 250 day run-up to this spectacle. They should create another channel for the pre-game hype to roll 24/7.
Why are so many of you guys so worried about damn targets? You wanna be good, don't you? Bama always has a target on them, so does OSU. Clemson now does. USC does. Why the hell does this trouble you guys? Having a target means people are envious. They want to be you.
I thought of #2 right away as a possible ulterior motive. I don't think it's going to matter - we're running the table this time.
