Kyle Dake to NLWC

That or he wants to steal all of Cael's zen secrets before he starts a second career as Cornell's head coach.

I kid? Not really.

Does Nolf stick around and train alongside (but probably not with) the class of his weight class? Does he go hang w/ his PSU friends at ASU?

People haven't figured out by now that Carter is just a talker. He's not even coming with Dake. He is the only 79 at NLWC right now. Dake is 74. He's going to have to compete with either Nolf or Brooks/DT for the spot in 2024 anyways. (almost certainly 86 though)

He also was prepared to fight Gilman the first summer Gilman is here. He's competitive.

Below is a quote or full text by MSU158 on the Hawkeye report. Thought it said everything that needed to say. Very well written.

Happening while the Iowa RTC has basically been 100% stagnant. It was already hard enough for Iowa to catch PSU consistently, but this about ices it.

The impact this will have on recruiting, which is already ridiculously in their favor, is enormous. Hell, I wonder what this will do to the transfer portal. You simply can’t argue any other place having remotely the level of training partners from top to bottom.

Gilman-4x World Medalist
Retherford-World Silver Medalist
Dake- 4 World Golds and Olympic Bronze
Nolf, Gomez and Bekzod
David Taylor- 1 Olympic Gold, 2 world golds and 1 world silver
Kyle Snyder- 8(yes that is 100% medaling at every world level championship)3 golds, 3 silvers, 1 bronze and still waiting on either a gold or bronze tomorrow.

That doesn’t even account for Nick Lee, RBY, Starocci, Brooks and Dean. Or the coaches- The Sandersons, Cunningham, Varner, Kennedy and McKnight.

Unless a rule comes only to cause serious negative impact to the current RTC system, it will be a battle for 2nd for the foreseeable future…

I was told HR only made excuses and never gave credit to others success.

I’m excited to see Dake at the NLWC. He is so special as a defensive wrestler but I’m interested to see if the brain trust at NLWC can get him to open up a bit. I hope they can because when Dake goes and attacks he is incredible to watch. I also think this is extremely beneficial for CStar. Having someone else in the room who can push and at this point probably beat you is only going to push him and make Carter better. 2024 is going to be interesting in the room with probably Dake, Nolf, Bekzod, and Starocci all vying for that 74kg Olympic spot. Does anyone know what Zain plans on doing in 2024? Seems like 70kg is perfect for him and that he seems to have outgrown 65kg. I wonder if he sucks back down or continues to get bigger? It sucks being a tweener which I think Zain is.

Carter will beat Dake at the 2023 Trials.
Book it.
Why would Carter go 163 next year after wrestling 174 in college. Wouldn't 174 international make more sense. Burroughs is 34 and will be 35 next season. 2024 is a different matter as 174 is not an Olympic weight, then he would have to choose between 163 and 189, a tough choice either way.

Totally agree. Carter at 79kg makes the most sense for next year. Gives him another year to see what his body does as well which should help him decide what weight to go in 2024

Given that Bekzod has always wrestled for Uzbekistan, and did so again this week, I don’t think he’ll be competing against the US guys for the US spot at 74kg.

Talk about “manning up”, if you are a HS senior knowing you’ll go from your state tournament to wrestling these guys in 2 months?!?!! And the coaches will train you to compete with them, this scenario is only for the select few. No complaints from me, welcome aboard Dake!
