Lamont Wade

From the article:

""He was struggling with 185 in the clean the first two or three weeks. He cleaned 300 pounds this week,” Galt said. “His bench press was 325, second-best among corners. It was 255 when he got here. He's just exploded. He ran a 4.4 [40-yard dash], tested at 4.58 the first time he ran it when we got here.”"

That's quite a change in just two months. He's obviously working very hard.

Good little article about Wade. Major progress in weight room since January. Can't wait to see him on the field.

Wade is a tremendous athlete and fine man. He will make his mark on Penn State and on the NFL. I bet he is glad he didn't choose pitt. He would still be dodging traffic trying to get to his room in a run down apartment building.

Here's the scene down on Forbes Ave

I am glad he isn't going to hit me!

I have been around Clairton over the years as my wife has lots of cousins that grew up there and an aunt that still lives there. I'm also working a couple days a week there now in the USS plant. When you grow up in Clairton, and have excelled at it, you have to be pretty tough. Can't wait to see Wade on the field....

• When he arrived, PSU had two guys who ran in the 4.4s — Amos and Thompkins. This week, five players ran in the 4.3s and 14 ran 4.4s. “So we’ve really improved out team speed. Obviously it starts through recruiting but then you have to develop them when they get here.”

• Other 4.3 guys were Haley, Barkley, Thompkins (4.35), Blacknall and walk-on Jabarri Butler.

And for those that say PSU is inflating their times. Godwin ran an electronic 4.42 at combine, but top listed time for a PSU WR on their wall is 4.39 for Blacknall.

A combination of teaching proper technique (especially with the clean) and getting immersed in a top-level nutrition program can do a lot for someone who obviously had a lot of raw - but untapped - ability when he arrived on campus.

Still no match for pitt. :(

I remember it being a very tough place back in the 70's. I can't imagine it's changed all that much.
Kudos to Wade for being such a hard worker already.

Potential recruits should take note.

I'd like to know what the OSU punter runs then.

Pretty sure Grant was dealing with some leg injury problems during the season. Didn't he miss a couple of games before tOSU ?

Since he put his name in the transfer portal, how long does he have to decide if he is going elsewhere or staying at PSU. Is there a deadline for those in the transfer portal?
I have to admit I'm kinda baffled... it took nearly an entire thread before someone actually mentioned that Lamont is IN the transfer portal.

So to everyone else who posted about their excitement re his progress, can someone dispel my concerns and apprise me on the updated situation... specifically, that Lamont is not transferring.

TIA!

Look at the time stamp on most of the posts. It's an older thread that the ASWPer decided to dig up.

So what happened?
What had happened was we have way better options at safety anyways, and Lamont already has a kid, and he saw the writing on the wall that he would never get any serious playing time at PSU. He will start for you guys tho, and we will torch him and that secondary. Ricky, Journey, and co will be running by him, while Noah Cain will be running over him in September. I see a final score similar to the one from this past season. 45-13 PSU
Now go back to the Lair.

Damn you dug up a 2 year old thread because you think you are getting him... It will be even funnier to see the Lair meltdown when he doesnt end up at Pitt

When Wade committed to Penn State, pitt athletic supporters derided him in every way imaginable. Too short, overrated, traitor, blah, blah. Now that he is in the transfer portal, they desperately want him at pitt, are convinced he will come there, and are crowning him a world-beater. Typical.
