Saw this info in a tweet posted by the Collegian. Scary stuff. It's weird-the secondary has been bad but the physicality of the front 7 has really dropped off. Hardly any penetration and tackles for loss. Wondering if Windsor is knicked up, tackling has been bad too. Maybe that tough physical stretch really took a lot out of this team.

We also dropped a couple easy interceptions, both could have been returned quite a ways. That isn’t a new thing either, we have dropped a lot of easy interceptions this season. It cost us the Michigan state game 2 years ago. If we don’t take advantage of every opportunity against Ohio State, there is no chance to win that game. You can’t give them second chances.

I've noticed the last couple of games we haven't seen Sutherland at Safety but he's been on special teams (KO, I think). I'm not suggesting he's the answer to our pass defense woes but it does make me wonder if he's somewhat injured or if he's just been passed by.

There was a great contested catch by Minn over Keaton Ellis, who I believe may be right now our best cover corner......... Even when his receiver catches the ball #2 seems to be right on him........

John Reid left 6 points on the field yesterday by dropping a tailor-made pick-6.

We go 10-2 last year if Amani could secure an easy interception during that last Sparty drive.

It is what it is.

To me, it's a combination of three things: (1) DBs are frequently out of position and unaware of where the ball is, (2) the blitzes just aren't getting home in time, leaving major gaps in the secondary, and (3) the DL is incapable of getting pressure. That's a really dangerous combination.

He was in on the last TD for Minnesota. I love the kids physicality, but his game is really not well suited for 2019 football

Out of those 49 completions, how many were contested catches? 9?
I would say maybe 4 or 5 are db's are not even close the wr's they just watch them run by, thinking they have help but then the help is never there. IU first Td there was not a db within 10 or 15 yards. If PSU is going to get PI might as well earn it- hit someone with in 5 yards all these free releases are garbage.

I couldn't believe they let an Indiana receiver get behind them that late in the game. I don't know if Wilson was expected help from the safety but it just can't happen there.

Should we fire pry? Maybe we should bring back bradley.

Yea Houston, we got a problem and its not Ricky Rahne or Limgrover.

I don't think we should fire anyone, right now but the pitchfork and torches crowd need to turn their attention to defense, be that Pry, Banks or Smith. There is something wrong.

But you have to make the tackle too.

Pry has the ability to make ordinary QB’s look like Tom Brady. It’s incredible how good the QB play is against PSU. Third and long is right where they want them. So frustrating. So disappointing because it seems to happen every year. That’s scheme. Bradley loves it!

I don’t recall a PSU secondary worse than this one. It’s coaching, preparation and player development...this late in the season, players shouldn’t be this frequently so far out of position.

Yeah, and the Indiana receiver dropped a td pass that was right in his breadbasket. Because that’s football and both teams miss opportunities and the team that screws up less, wins. Penn State screwed up less, and won, and I’ll take it from now til Doomsday. And by the way, Franklin out-coached Allen.

Well, it's not an either/or. There are real problems on both sides of the ball.

Fact is, there won't be a major shakeup with a 10-2 record. Simple as that.

I would never be comfortable being one of those "win at all costs" programs like LSU or the like, but you have to tip your hat to their willingness to go out and spend big money to bring in big time assistants even when they're winning 9 or 10 games a year. They're aiming for 12-win seasons, and will spend accordingly. LSU going out and getting Joe Brady, for instance, may just bring them a natty. Shoring up deficiencies -- even when you're already successful -- is what moves the needle from good to great, or from great to elite. We definitely have some holes on both sides of the ball.

Yeah. But Wade has struggled mightily at times in coverage.
Brisker hasn’t exactly flourished, either.
Pretty sure I have seen the true freshman, Rudolph, on ST’s, but not on defense.
Next season, some WR’s may have to get looks at safety

I'm pretty sure Franklin is aiming for 15 win seasons.

My take is that Wade and Taylor too often have their eyes in the backfield which takes away the help for the cb’s and allows the wr’s to run free on a play-action pass or a simple pump fake by the qb.
Wade is being played as if he is troy polamalu. Blitzing often and cheating up at the line when he needs to cover the slot. Hes not capable of those things.

What do you recommend that we should do!
Tackle better, for one.
Blitz less, especially from the outside. If we do blitz from the outside, better to send LB’s than DB’s.
Seek to eliminate the defensive hole in the middle of the field.
Simplify the coverage assignments for the sake of the DB’s where possible to reduce confusion. This especially applies to situations where safety help deep is needed.
Adisa Isaac and Marquis Wilson should get more snaps.

When was the last time you remember our secondary looking back for the ball on the sideline and longer routes with regularity during a game?

We had better secondaries during the sanction years. :(:(

And with all the athleticism and depth we have right now at LB our current LB's are not as good at making splash plays (INT's, TFL's...) as Mauti, Hodges, ......

And that leaves the DL, whose impact seems to be trailing off as the season has gone along.....

And with the Defense expected to lead this team's success it is a complement to the offense that this team is 9-1....:)

The Pry hate makes no sense, this is the first year the defense has been a problem and he did it last year with smoke and mirrors.

Questions need to be asked on the defensive side at all 3 levels but Pry should be part of the solution. I'm fine with some positional coaches being asked to move on

He played against Minnesota, and is not the answer. Hopefully nobody gets too offended by me saying that.

I’d love to see CJF use the Pegula & McDermott/PSU connection and send Pry & Co to spend time with The Bills.

McDermott was taught the art of blitzing by one of the greats in Jim Johnson. Couldn’t hurt to pick his brain.
