This incident reminds me of a famous story from the Cold War days. I remember way back in 1960 when it was reported that Nikita Khrushchev removed his shoe and started banging on the table in protest at the UN General Assembly. There is some controversy as to whether or not he really banged his shoe, but his behavior that day certainly got the attention of a lot of people.
