I am at a loss how someone at this level can be so lost. Everyone on this site could have predicted how Temple would attack our offense, they didn't do anything revolutionary. Nowhere in the gameplan was a counter to the blitz. Where were the slants and drags? Where were the middle screens. You have Polk and Thompkins with great speed but didn't use them to get short quick underneath catch and runs. Where were the one on one middle range or deep sideline throws to our tall receivers giving them a chance to go up and beat a defender? Where was the 7-10 yard TE seams or curls? He has a huge height advantage and we didn't use any of it. I am convinced they don't have a single option route in their playbook.
Instead we get 4-5 receivers running zone routes against man defense. When you could see the route combinations on the TV it left you scratching your head wondering what they were thinking. One play Brock Huard shows 5 receivers in a pattern that has straight man to man defense with a 6 man pass rush and 3 receivers within 7 yards of each other all sitting down like they were attacking a zone.
The running game was non existent like they stopped trying to even keep Temple honest. I know the Oline is not good but for pete's sake do something to help them.
I don't know who I felt worse for. Hack because he is in an offense that has no concept of what it is trying to accomplish or even gives him a small chance of success, the Oline who is struggling and has no hope of play calling that helps them, or Shoop and the defense who has to be frustrated because no defense in the country can be good for a whole game when you are coming back on the field every series after a 3 and out.
If Franklin is going to be successful here he is going to need to move on from Donovan or get some consultants to do his job for him and put together some semblance of a college level offensive gameplan. During that game I kept seeing the scene from "The Waterboy" where the other coach is laughing on the sideline while he reads playcalling for dummies and calls his defenses accordingly and watches sack after sack after sack. It was sad.
