I want to participate in an advanced, in-person leadership development training sometime next year. Has anyone participated in one, or recommends a, specific leadership training?

Leadership qualities:
You are not indispensable
Surround yourself with smart people
Listen to the people around you
Get out of their way
Delegate responsibilities
Minimize deliberation
Streamline as much as you can
Leave your ego at the door

You’ll do very well if you follow that.

I've done a few all developed by associations or organizations in my specific profession. I'd recommend that you look into associations related to your job to see what might be available.

Well, you just saved him a lot of time and a ton of money!

I would add learn to listen…..or at least know how fake listening.

Agreed--most of the classes I've taken have truly been a waste of time. Nice to say you've taken them but I can't say for certain I've "learned" anything in those. You learn more my your mistakes and experiences than you do from any leadership training. Everyone leads differently--trying to align that doesn't work.

I was involved in a high-level leadership training that included five 4-5 day sessions spread out over a period of 18 months. The most challenging and beneficial thing I've ever done. Even if I would have learned nothing, I gained 15 of the best friends I've ever had. We share information and advice and hold reunions each year.

I've also done one or two day sessions. Some were good, some were junk. Really hit or miss.

I know some people who've hired "coaches" to work with them one on one. I guess that's OK but you lose the benefit of interaction with others.

I see a lot of “leadership training” as offered by our corporate leadership teams and consultants.

I often muse that these people were given a 3 touchdown lead coming out of halftime with the ball, 40 years ago.

That lead has now mostly vanished.

Tell me again….why is their advice sound?

Perhaps my GE 6 sigma training didn’t take. Can those pontificating clowns advise how it’s going At GE?
