I read this in today's edition of USA Today:

"The incoming president of the University of Texas-Austin, Gregory Fenves, declined the school's offer of a $1 million salary, citing budget constraints over the past five years, according to The Austin American-Statesman."

Now, I don't know if that means that Fenves is being paid nothing or something short of $1 million. I also suspect that Fenves isn't hurting if he was able to turn down that money, but it still was a strong move on his part. He sounds like a leader.

Now contrast this with Penn State. I'm pretty sure that barron isn't making $1 million, but I believe he is being paid more than erickson. Considering Pennsylvania's historic budget shortfalls for education and the way in which Penn State has burned money the past few years, barron should step up and take a pay cut. This doesn't even consider his poor alumni relations. Of course, barron won't step up like Fenves, but as we all know, barron isn't a leader. He's a follower. The slugs he follows waste money, so he'll fall in line and contribute to the wasting.
