The link is a Paywalled article in the Wall Street Journal. To sum a Bill to ensure college athletes share in all collegiate revenues is being proposed in California.
1. It has passed the House and now moves to the Senate.
2. It requires players be paid and 50% of the revenue of sports be paid to players.
3. Of the amount paid through the revenue sports (football and basketball) 50% needs to be sent to women’s sports teams for their compensation.
I may have certainly got a few details wrong here, but if this passes the California Senate, NIL will be footnote, the Big Two conferences will crush everyone else, and the Women’s Lacrosse Team should plan for quite a party!
As with NIL, this will not stay in California.
