I was watching the 2017 Illinois-Indiana(?) match and they were talking about Imar as the number one seed. Knowing what happened to him
(twice) in NCAAs got me trying to think of Lions getting pinned in big matches. Other than DT as a freshman in the finals, I couldn't think of any of PSU'S guns being pinned. 6 point moves a few times, but not pins. Am I missing some major upset pins, or did they just not happen? With how aggressively PSU wrestles, it is pretty incredible how seldom they get caught.

2014, Penn State ranked #1 lost to 2nd ranked Minn. Both teams were undefeated in Big 10 .
Dylan Ness pinned Dylan Alton in a key bout.
So that is quite a ways back! Pretty impressive...

Ramos got Conaway in a dual, right? Or was that Jimmy?
Both, I think. With cow catcher, maybe?
Yes to both, though neither was an upset loss.

If we were to list some other non-upset losses: Nico as a FR at B10s. Q as SO in the dual (offhand can't remember if it was Rutt or Steinhaus). Q again as a SR in the All-Star match vs. Wilps (though in fairness, it was an exhibition and he went for broke). Zero-shouldered Andrew Alton vs. Grajales. Verk vs. Zovitovsky and Purinton.

He rolled thru a lot of seeded wrestlers on the backside. A very nice run.
IMar wishes he knew how to roll through! :)

Your memory is what holds this place together Jefe.

The funny thing about this joke every time it comes up is, Martinez DID know how to roll through. And the sad part about it is, it doesn't give Cenzo enough credit.

Black Shoe Diaries did an exhaustive breakdown of the throw. Short version is that Martinez attempted to roll through it by pressing Cenzo overhead and using his right leg as an elevator. (He couldn't plant his left foot for leverage because inside trip.)

Can be seen at 7:31 of the video -- while falling back, Martinez gets both hands on Cenzo's torso and pushes off, with his right shin pushing Cenzo's left leg. (I attempted to start the video mid-throw, just before Martinez's attempted push-off.)

His problem was, Cenzo blocked it. He released the RH overhook and planted his hand (maybe also his forearm) on the mat above Martinez's head.

Cenzo earned that pin from the moment he locked up double overs, all the way to the ref slapping the mat.

Good point. But was it over when the Jason bombed Isaiah Harbor? (And IMar hung on?) :)

Funniest thing about Jason's pin of Martinez is IMAR actually believed a high pace match favored him.
I've always wondered if he truly thought that, or if he didn't want the higher pace and wanted to make Jason think Jason didn't want it.

Probably the former. Career undefeated 2x champ who won by bullying opponent with a high pace.

In any case, one attempt to match Jason's pace was enough for him.

Many years ago but Andy Matter getting pinned by an unknown in the 1970 Nationals. Matter was dominating when was pinned

The push by Imar really helped Cenzo rotate. When BSD shows the frames, it is incredible how much is going on between these two outstanding wrestlers

If you are ever feeling down in the dumps just watch that 30 second sequence

One of only 2 losses in Andy's career. That was to a kid from Oklahoma State and Andy was leading by something like 10-0 in the quarterfinals. His only loss ever at the NCAA's. I'm pretty sure Andy got pinned from the top position.
