List incorrect assessments related to Penn State Football since Franklin arrived.

I don't think we should be beating people up for being critical of JF's performance from 2014 until after this year's UM game. We stunk for most of last two seasons. I had him on the hot seat because games were not even close against solid teams and his decision making was suspect. In fact, I think it still is suspect. No one could have predicted the impact of Joe Moorhead on the program. He saved JF's future at PSU and JF gets credit for making a huge hire. A system has been implemented, talent and leadership in the right place..can't we just enjoy? No one knew the team was that close to greatness earlier this season...

Yawn....idiots such as yourself were critical of Coach Franklin for hiring an FCS Patriot League coach as the new OC.....now he supposedly "saved Franklin's job". PSU's 2014 and 2015 record had everything to do with the horrendous shape FLO left the roster and recruiting in, especially along the OL and at LB...and nothing to do with Coach Franklin's coaching abilities. In fact, Coach Franklin did an incredible job recording an above-.500 mark his first 2 years given the roster and situation FLO handed him three weeks prior to LOI Day in 2014! Now, the 1st year that Franklin's recruits are making a major contribution to the starting lineups, PSU wins the B1G East Division, the B1G Championship, finishes the season Top 10 and is projected Top 5 next year by many services! Utterly laughable to claim that Coach Franklin going 14-12 and extending PSU's +.500 season streak to 11 in his first two seasons with a beyond mediocre and impaired roster was a "bad coaching job" - quite the opposite, it was a GREAT coaching job given what he was handed!

Incorrect...many knew this team was close to greatness, not just this year but next year. It was the impatient, unrealistic posters such as yourself that had Franklin on the hot seat.

Unbelievable. Let's go over your "points":

1. I had him on the hot seat because games were not even close against solid teams and his decision making was suspect.
I say the absolute best team Franklin faced was the 2014 national champion: OSU. Franklin's "suspect decision making" overcame some of the most widely-heralded officiating errors in years to get that PSU squad that, according to you, "stunk" into double overtime. Boy, you nailed that one.

2. In fact, I think it still is suspect.
WADR to President Reagan, "There you go again." Franklin's "continued suspect decision making," in your opinion, led to 9 straight wins, a defeat of unbeaten OSU, a rout of the Iowa team that shut down Michigan, a rout of the MSU squad that was a missed 2-point XP from defeating OSU, a spectacular comeback over Wisconsin to win the league title, and another incredible comeback that was only 1 play from defeating favored USC in the RB. Are you working for ESPN or the Patriot-News?

Why is it that Nick Saban, who doesn't call his own plays on either O or D, is considered a genius for Alabama's wins, while James Franklin, who likewise doesn't call either side, is ridiculed by even some PSU fans with comments like "[Moorhead] saved JF's future"? Have all of Saban's O and D coordinators saved his job? Is Saban merely a good salesman? I don't understand how some so-called "fans" just don't appreciate how great James Franklin is as Penn State's head coach.

I'll second the motion. One year does not a career make. Franklin's got to show me something. Long, sustained performance. I've always been skeptical of smooth talkers. He's got to show me something. So as far as I'm concerned the used car salesman label sticks.
"Used Car Salesman" that there is just a dumb statement. So you don't like coaches that recruit well and can speak in complete sentences. Um OK then.

Really? You're not shitting us here? No need to throw anyone specific under the bus, just answer my question, please.

Read the posts in this thread carefully. You can start with mine (to which you replied), and work your way up.

It certainly seems like James Franklin "predicted the impact of Joe Moorhead on the program." He said as much all offseason.

In regards to the question framed in your third paragraph, it's probably because the propagators of the Franklin ridicule are know-nothing posing-troll douche-bags and blowhards.

The incorrect assessments can come from any source. Media "experts", McAndrew Board "experts", etc.

For the purpose of this thread, I only want to consider the football program under Franklin. This thread is not intended to review the false narrative as it relates to Joe and the football program (although it is important to continue to pound the pavement in other threads).

I'll start, again, as it relates to the football program under Franklin.

  • Franklin is nothing more than a used car salesman and is in over his head.
"these guys can't make game day adjustments".

What is laughable is believing that somehow PSU's "talent" was so impaired that it could not beat such powerhouses Temple, IL, UMD when simply it was the head coach trusting an overmatched OC along with his "prodigy" QB who had shattered confidence, minimal accuracy and horrible decision-making skills. Take what changed in 2016 (hint OC and QB) and give JF credit for getting it done but stop the grand-standing that JF did a great job in 2015. It is simply not true. Also, realize that going for it on 4 and 3 on your own 35, down 3 TDs in 2nd qtr is not usually a good strategy. A lot worked this year that absolutely will not work majority of the time. I think 2017 will be shocking in the sense that we will probably have similiar record since lady luck won't be so kind every year.

Nah, it's called watching PSU football, seeing weaknesses and not living in dreamland about why your team could not get first downs or score points nor taking moral victories in losses to OSU. It is also recognizing the great fortunes of this year.

Gee, would that be like FLO losing to Ohio or a UVa team that ended up 4-8 in 2012 with starting units that he inherited that had 11 future NFL players on them??? Or how about recording the only loss in program history to an Indiana team in 2013 that ended up going 5-7 with an equally NFL laden team 99% of whom were inherited by FLO from the prior staff???

LMFAO at the depth of the sheer stupidity, ignorance and agenda required to come up with such drivel....

Several folks saw what was really taking place, and the direction the program was heading......and how the path was being navigated - and the progress that was being made

Others? Couldn't see past the W-L record (which, given the situation at hand, was damn good in its own right - - - but, again, the "onion skin" depth analyzers couldn't see that either)

And the same "onion skin depth analyzers" are typically the same ones who like to praise FLO for going 15-9 with teams that should have done no worse than 18-6. Go figure.....

You don't think fans of every team in the nation can find things their team did wrong in almost every game? You think other teams miss on getting first downs once in a while, have close losses to good teams, or have some luck? Look at a game by game, play by play breakdown of Clemson's season this year and you will see all that...close win over Troy, an OT win over NC State and a loss to Pitt at home. You don't think Clemson fans were upset during and after each of those games? But in the end what matters is the overall results and Franklin's were stellar this year and pretty good the last two years considering what he was up against.

It truly frustrates me that these same people showed up in masses in the latter half of the season to cheer us on. These are the type of fans who really make the fan base as a whole look bad.

In all seriousness, how many coaches in the nation could have inherited the mess he did and have his program in the top 5 in their 3rd season?
