Watkins in so much better than Moore. I have no idea why Chambers took him out and has played Moore most of the 2nd half so far. Oh and banks is not a good defender so if he is not making shots, get him out. Samuel and reeves are very active, their energy is keeping the guys ahead.

Thank goodness we won because a loss here could have crushed all excitement about the present and future of this team

Still trying to settle on a rotation right now but Reaves and Samuel are two energy guys, need to always hav one on the floor. Watkins is such a good defender, exactly what they need in the middle, with the pressing and trapping. Moore does nothing against a team like this, but hopefully can contribute something when they need him against Purdue, MSU, etc. Stephens had a rough night but will learn from it. I like the 6-8 guys who play the 1-4 but like I said banks better make shots like tonightor he is a liability on D

I see a lot of raw talent on this team but we really lack a big body. Nobody to score in the paint with their back to the basket. Nobody to clog up the middle on defense. A B1G team should be able to beat a team like Colgate by 20+ points just by pounding the ball inside an imposing their strength on opponents. We just don't have that right now. Our best hope is for Watkins to grow into that role now that Hampton is gone.

Banks seems to be playing with more composure. Carr has a lot of upside. Same for Watkins, Stevens, etc. Samuels looks like he can play too. It's just going to take time.

I'm surprised by the defensive strategy. Trapping on almost every possession. Colgate breaks the press and from there it's easy to get into the paint. I guess Chambers wants to go high tempo all game long, be willing to give something up on defense and hope to outscore opponents.

Won by 13. Not sure what to make of this team.
It looks like it's basically the same as the last five years with some better athletes. You would think there would be some improvement so far, but there really hasn't been.

Cue wbcincy to tell you that you need to be patient, that Chambers has the program on the right track, and you otherwise don't know what you're talking about.

;)

Watkins does a good job of controlling the paint now, he even guards well on the perimeter, Moore does neither. Watkins blocks shots, forces tougher ones or kickouts but is not a polished offensive guy yet, hopefully he gains 25 lbs and the offense comes around.

I'm ok with the trapping but if you have a big to rim protect, the '4' must be more active once they break the trap, hence my calling out banks on D.

They have got to solve the shooting problems. Supposedly they shoot well in practice, but not in games. They had a lot of good looks last night, but it wasn't going in the hoop. It wasn't like Colgate was contesting all of the shots... there was a lot of ball movement to find the open man at times. That's their biggest problem, aside from they're still learning to play with each other.

Did they recruit any true shooters? That's been Bob Huggins' problem for years...he recruits really good athletes who can't shoot.

Not really. Davis was supposed to be a shooter, but in games he's not proven to be able to hit them in large numbers. The rest are quality players that do a lot of things well, but we don't have that one, go-to scorer.

In the past we often had one go-to scorer (like Battle or Frazier), but no supporting cast. In some of the early games we've had balanced scoring, which is good, but we don't have a sharpshooter to go to when shots aren't falling for everyone else. Frazier wasn't that person early in his career, but turned into it, so I'm hoping someone steps up. Garner when he's hot can drain them, but he's streaky. He'll go almost an entire half with no buckets, then hits a few and shoots lights out. But if they don't fall early, he takes awhile to shoot himself out of the slump.

I see a team that is still getting its confidence. At times they play well, but go stretches where they just don't seem completely in sync. That's probably youth and adjusting to the college game. Even playing teams like Colgate and Albany is a step up from some AAU games. The teams might not be as talented but they often have some players 3-4 years older than our freshmen with experience that they're not used to playing against.

I was hoping they would be playing a little better than they have so far, but I'm not hitting the panic button.
