Let’s please put this into perspective.

Franklin is elite! Penn State is so close to Bama, O$U, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, and Oklahoma. They are CFB’s elite.

IF PSU wins its next two games they will have won 42 games from 2016-19.

IF they were to win 11 games next year, it will be the winningest 5 yr stretch in school history!

I’m a JoeBot but I can not deny what is taking place. Franklin has returned PSU to prominence. Lock this guy up long term. WTF!

While I don't disagree with any of your premises, as a practical matter, coaches can't be "locked up." Yes, they can be signed to long-term contracts for lots of money, but there will always be some fool school that will come around and pay more.

Please don't bring facts and rational thoughts to this board. It is NOT what we do here.

Along with locking him up, put the money out there so he can get top-level assistants.
And, whatever upgrades need to be made (and, someone please enlighten me as I thought the Lasch was just renovated 3-4 years ago), make them.

OL

No problem with PSU providing more money to hire better assistants, but I'm not sure that's what Franklin wants it for.

Parts of Lasch have already been renovated and there are plans and money for more extensive renovations to both Lasch and Holuba. PSU should be okay in that respect.

And that’s the part that I will never understand. How does a school like Penn State or any other school for that matter include an ironclad buyout clause discouraging another school from going after a coach without serious consequences?? Hypothetically, if Penn State released Coach Franklin they would have to pay the guaranteed salary in the contract. So, if Coach Franklin left for another school why can’t their be a guaranteed penalty to mitigate losses?

I agree, Coach Franklin should be signed to a long term contract (within reason).

Austin Powers wants to hold Franklin ransom for "1 hundred billion dollars" and I approve of this buyout.

Yes, they need to make every effort to keep him. How do people not recognize his status as a top coach. Who’s coming here that’s better? Not doing better than Franklin.

A good agent will always negotiate down the coach’s buyout to give their client maximum flexibility; the better the coach, the lower the number. Saban can quit at any time and go to another school and he would owe Bama nothing. If the university fired him without cause, they owe him $33M.

At this point Franklin at PSU is like Richt at Georgia. He brought a great program back to national prominence, but might not have what it takes to get over the hump and win a National Championship.

Psu facilities are better but still lag way behind southern schools. When bresee visited georgia I asked him how it was and his first comment was oh my, their facilities, locker rooms, etc are the best.

Yeah I saw an article on the top 25 football facilities and while there is some subjectivity involved PSU was not ranked in the top 20. Clemson’s Taj Mahal is a tremendous recruiting tool.

You talk about top-level assistants which I 100% agree with but I only think of 2 things. How can they justify firing Rhane after a 10 win regular season and how good would our DL have been if we kept Johnson all these years?

I want Rhane to be released on the simple mediocre play calling which led to a 5 star WR to enter the transfer protocol.

I want to hear 107,000 people screaming together in unison today, "Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up!"

Despite decent weather, it’s Thanksgiving weekend and it’s Rutgers. Hopefully we get 100,000, anything over that will be a nice surprise.

Franklin is a very good coach and an even better representative for the university and I hope we keep him. You really have to give him or any other successful coach credit for the life they chose. Because no matter his success, the hatchet and tar and feather crowd will be after his head we don’t slaughter Rutgers today.

But if most of these same keyboard warriors met him in person they’d be slobbering all over him.

You have no idea why he went into the portal and to post something like this is ridiculous.

True but it seems clear the lack of down field targets to him must be at least 1 reason. In the Franklin interview the other day, James said he wished Shorter would work through the issues like others have in past years. I don't know 100% that's the reason Shorter is leaving. Franklin used the issue of lack of targets as an examples of other WR's, who did ok the first 2 years then broke out so that's my reasoning around low target theory. Most players want to be involved in the is games.

And Joe only won two in 47 years...was Joe the Mark Richt of Penn State?
See above, and I would also add 1994 to this.

P.S. I support Franklin and hope he stays for a long time. Just don't get the denigration of Paterno's accomplishments as a means of pumping him up. He doesn't need it.

Could you be more specific please, exactly where do you want him locked up ... SCI Benner Township or SCI Rockview?

Just consider the source.

betting most of those "folks" never attended let alone graduated and couldn't find their way from the Forum to the HUB without a map

Maybe true. But I’m not sure I could find my way anymore. Things are so different than when I was there for school.

I got this tidbit from a friend who is a significant booster to the program. So its second hand info so don't put too much stock into it. He says it is most likely FSU won't be able to offer Franklin what it would take to leave. Franklin's interest is only because he sees a more fertile recruiting area. Take it for what it's worth.

Any talk or rumors that PSU Is extending his contract?

Agree, give Franklin a raise and whatever else he wants (selfishly, I'm hoping one of those wants is more money for an upgrade in OC).
