Not PSU but have seen him wrestle a couple of times and impressed also seems like a good kid

These have been terrifying times for South Jersey wrestling powerhouse Paulsboro High School.

State champion Brandon Green, 170-pound class, has been hospitalized for more than a week after he became unresponsive and required CPR last Monday. The state champion went into surgery Friday about 90 minutes before his teammates wrestled Woodstown for the championship of the South Jersey, Group 1 tournament.

That's horrible news. Best of wishes to him on his post-op recovery and toward a long and productive life.

Snippets from 2/13 article:

Paulsboro High School senior state champion Brandon Green will undergo surgery to have an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) installed on Friday [2/14] ... An MRI on Wednesday [2/12] revealed Green had scar tissue around his heart ... Green has been hospitalized for 11 days after he became unresponsive and required CPR last Monday and was placed under sedation.

That is terrible to see. I wonder how this affects Va Tech’s 9.9 scholarships. Does he count against that cap or does Va Tech honor their offer by providing funds through other means? My guess is the later. Anybody know how this works?

In a lot of these situations I believe the school steps up and it does not go against the 9.9. I can't reference it for certain, but I have heard this several times.

Hoping for the kid to live as much as a normal life as his condition warrants. Awfully young to have such a procedure.

At a school like Va Tech it won't count they've funds setup for injured athletes.

Prayers from me and the Mrs., for a recovery and a long life. Too young, and the parent in me hopes for the best result for the young man.

The ICD is the same device that was implanted in Jay Bouwmeester, the NHL d-man who collapsed on the bench earlier this month.

Many people have heart issues and have no idea. Fortunately this young man made it thru his scare and will hopefully lead a normal life. I had (8) marathons under my belt and in the best condition I was ever in. Then showed some odd signs and in (3) weeks had heart surgery. The cardiologist said to me, you know we are the only mammals on earth that choose to run for up to 4 hours at a time. He suggested that I dial it back a little.
