Looks like MLB is back

As much as I like baseball I think it's ridiculous to bring it back this year in such a watered down form. The hockey plan is even more boneheaded.

Im on the other end of the spectrum. I think a 50 game baseball season with 16 playoff teams would be awesome. It would finally feel like every game mattered significantly for most teams in the league almost the entire season. History is the only reason 162 games makes any sense.

A short season gives the bucs a chance. Any team can get hot for a month and that might just be enough. The longer the season goes the more likely for the cream to rise.

The season will happen. But will it be 50 games with a prorated salary or will there be more games with additional salary. That seems to be the only thing left to be worked out

Get ya, but I'm pretty much of a purist when it comes to baseball. History and tradition are a bigger part of this sport than any other. Heck, fundamentally I don't even like the wildcard. I've always looked at baseball as a game of attrition, and more often than not the better teams are still standing at season's end. This short of a season changes all of that, particularly when you're talking about half the teams making the playoffs. And I doubt much credence will be given to the ultimate champion this year.

Minor League Baseball posts attendance increase of over one million fans in 2019
42 million attended minor league games in 2019. 62 million attended major league games.

a lot easier to spend $1 for an outfield ticket at state college and $3 for parking for a total cost of $7 for a family of four than to spend 30 times that for an MLB game

I hear you and agree completely about baseball's history. The problem for me is how much of that history and chasing statistics etc was ruined by the steroids ear. So no pitching records are untouchable because guys only start 30 games/200 innings a year compared to 45 games/350 innings in the past, and hitting records are ruined by the early 2000s. It sucks, but there's no going back on it now.

With respect to expanded playoffs, I get that half is a bit much, but we also can't really compare today to 1940. There were only 16 teams in 1940, so 4 teams making the playoffs then is actually a higher percentage of teams making the postseason than 8 of 30 making it now.

Point is just that 104 million paid to attend professional baseball games in 2019. Seems like a lot for something "no one cares" about.

Where are you getting $1 tickets? The lowest price ticket to a Spikes game is $8.

Only two teams made playoffs in 1940. One from each league.

Haven't seen this anywhere, watching the MLB channel to check, nothing, all about the draft.
One of my sons is keeping tabs on the MLB free agent draft, and his first comment was "The Giants used their top pick on another phuckin' CATCHER! Does Joey Bart (the Giants' top draft pick a couple of years ago, and also a catcher) suddenly suck?!"

There were no playoffs until 1969.

$2 ticket Tuesdays for the Yankees affiliated AAA Railriders featuring $2 tacos and $2 Landshark 16 oz. cans. You can beat that.

Except maybe $1 Mondays with $1 hot dogs and you can bring your dog. This was the last few years, of course.

All teams have several promotions during the season.

Good chance that NL adds DH so drafting multiple catchers in close proximity now seen as reasonable.

Carl Spackler does!
I guess that I am the only one who gets that.
He is a die hard Cubs fan so maybe you can get some pay back by drafting a few of the Cub players. And leave the Dodger stars to me.
Ironically, the original Carl was played by Bill Murray who I believe also is a Cub fan.

They would need to pay me to drink a Landshark.
Or eat the tacos. ;) But hey, $1 or $2 bucks is a good deal for lawn seats. The players use to love it when our kids would stand above the bullpen and beg for balls. Good times. And lawn seats might work behind home base after the 3rd inning. Someone told me that that works there. :)

Yeah, I've been corrected. I had no idea. I don't think half a league should make the playoffs generally (i'm making an exception for this shortened season), but I also think that more teams being in contention later is generally a good thing. So I'd probably say about 1/3 of the league should make the playoffs. NFL at 12 of 32 teams seemed pretty perfect to me, even though the steelers have been the 13th team so many times.

Yes it was directed toward you sir. Thanks for being a good sport!

Did you read my league-wide email I sent out a few days ago?

I'm stalking me some Spackler this year!

:);):)

PS. I really do not like the Cubs at all and I'm actually more of a White Sox fan after my Pirates of course.

Also root for the Red Sox and Angels!!
