March Madness Friday Jukebox thread

Neil Sedaka turns 84 today (it's now March 13 since it's after midnight). He wrote popular songs and he performed some of them. I'll start with some of his songs from the 60s.

This song was released in December 1960. I don't know when this video was from but I assume it's about the same time. This seems fairly racy for that time. On top of the overtly racy stuff, check out the subliminally racy outfit of Miss March at about 0:30 (and other times) with the white circles where he breasts would be. This is a great tune. My favorite part is the "Yeah, yeah, my heart's in a whirl, I love I love I love my little calendar girl." The instrumental starting at 1:30 isn't so great but other than that, great tune. I think this is ripe for a remake. It went to #4 in 1960, a little better than his previous song "Oh Carol" in 1959 that went to #9, even though I think this one is way better.

Here the song is used in a cat food commercial in the 1970s.

Next is "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" from 1962 is next. It went to #1.

Here is a novelty song based on that from the 80s when the government is breaking up AT&T.

Enough for now. More later. Happy Birthday, Neil Sedaka.

Sexy version…. just don’t look at who sings it
Hah. I was listening to Bette sing this earlier this morning. Which I do a lot---explore one song's different covers and/or the live versus studio. Gotta luv Youtube.

At the risk of being redundant, I am posting another version by Johnny Rivers that I like. [When we post them on here there are no ads. (Shhh, don't tell Richard Schnyderite. lol)]

Have always been amazed at the talent these people have to take a song and interpret it twenty completely different ways. Heard a live version of Radar Love where they do the guitar solo a dozen different ways. Singer says Elvis was driving the Cadillac sedan….and does the solo like Elvis. Then Jimmy Hendrix. Johnny Cash, Brian Wilson. Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry. Same notes but each with such distinct style it was instantly recognizable. Pretty cool

Edit: Wrong song. It’s was Hot Rod Lincoln

Sounds cool.
And, indeed we are privy now to literally 1,000s upon 100s of fabulous live captured performances by our favorite singers and bands right at our fingertips (on YouTube). I been watching Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert where an array of artists do their take on and perform his songs. I missed it back in when it aired, but it's now here for the viewing. (🎶🎵🎶🖤🎶🎵🎶)

More Neil Sedaka, who turned 84 on Monday. After having a lot of hits in the early 1960s, his career waned as his stuff wasn't compatible with the tastes leaning towards the British Invasion and then harder rock. But then the 1970s came and he has a resurgence. He wrote three songs that ended up being #1 hits in 1975.

This one was #1 early in 1975 and he performs it. Great tune.

Then in the summer of 1975, The Captain & Tenille covered his song Love Will Keep Us Together and it became the biggest hit of the year. In one part of the outro, instead of singing another "da da da da," Toni Tenille sings "Sedaka is back." This was #1 for four weeks.

Then near the end of 1975 he had another #1 hit that he performed, a somewhat funky number named Bad Blood. This was #1 for three weeks.

Pretty good year for ol' Neil.
