Has Maryland received a bunch of injuries....just not playing well. I knew that they were stumbling coming into this weekend.....but us being 4 touch down favorites was higher than expected.

It seems like they had been recruiting fairly well....but the results this year do not seem very good.

It feels like MD is always like that. They seem to wilt against B1G competition which typically means that they can't match up physically. Their only win was against USC by one. Their QB had a career day with over 370 yards passing. They were down 21-7 at the half and scored 15 in Q4 to win.

MD is always a dangerous team for PSU and we've lost some games to them, recently, that we shouldn't have. And it is an interesting game because the weather will be nasty and MD will be pumped as many will never put on a football uniform again. I think it is important that we have a good Q1. We haven't had a good first quarter all year. we give up a lot of yards on the opponent's first drive and our first drives haven't been great.

PSU did have a great first quarter against Washington. This is a game that if you get up early on them, Maryland should pack up the tent; they have nothing to play for other than pride and if they get down early, several of their players probably will make business decisions.

Lost some games to them? Penn state is 43-3-1 Vrs Maryland and most have been blowouts. This is one of most lopsided series in all of college football

2014 penn state worst team. 2020 covid year. Penn state owns Maryland. Every year it’s their biggest game and they get crushed. Last three years combined 112-29 and 2019 59-0.
OK, I think we win. But I don't think taking MD lightly is smart. They beat USC.

Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...Maryland...

Of course they have to take the game seriously but this is senior day, it's the game that nails down the playoff. PSU has no shortage of motivation here.

Yes PSU lost to Maryland in the no-handshake game in 2014 (the year PSU had like 6 O-linemen on the roster) and 2020 covid year.

But otherwise PSU has been way too much for Maryland at the line of scrimmage. Usually you can worry a little about Maryland quarterback and skill players, but this year their offense hasn't been effective since September -- 10 pts v Northwestern, 13 vs. Iowa, 17 against Rutgers etc. It's a down year for them -- they're one step above Purdue but that's about it..

Their defense gave up almost 30 points at home last week to an Iowa team that was playing with a non-qb at qb, and Iowa, except for the Minny game, has been a bad road team this season.

That was that tool Edsel - payback is a bitch and her stripper name is karma - Edsel's career flamed out quickly after this game.

The no-handshake was Franklin's first game as a PSU coach returning to the place where he had coached for so long. And Maryland was starting play in the B10 which only happened because PSU got them in. That PSU roster was horribly depleted, in some ways not even a D1 roster, and PSU still would have won the game except for like 4 missed FGs by a freshman Sam Ficken (who went on to be an NFL kicker). Maryland players were jerks, it was gross and disrespectful.

So I don't know how much of a grudge Franklin holds, but it seems to me since that game he hasn't minded running up the score on those guys any time PSU has the opportunity.

Yeah so many factors going PSU's way, maybe in a counterintuitive way it's bad juju for PSU. But probably not. Probably it's the makings of a typical PSU-Maryland mismatch.

Well, Franklin just needs to remind them that just a few weeks ago, Maryland actually gave Oregon a decent game in Eugene.

After the near disaster at Minnesota and with all that’s on the line, PSU better come out with their hair on fire against Maryland.

UMD beat UCONN, UVA, Villanova and USC. USC was an anomaly. Maryland has some talent withe the WR's and Hemby. But they're just a bad football team. I think PSU will build a nice lead and then get a lot of young guys in. To get them some game experience and to protect against any more of our starters getting injured. I'd like to see Artis and Gilliam on the DL and some of the young LB's and OL.

The answer is … Mike Locksley.

Bottom 10 game day coach. Solid recruiter with regard to skill position but other than that he’s a garbage person/coach. Has talent to just out athlete teams team early and occasionally a decent team but due to that team helping them out

Respectfully, this is what we heard from many posters here when people raised concern about the Minnesota game. Many here scoffed at any suggestion that Minnesota could be a problem.

I agree that hopefully PSU comes out with intensity and puts the game away early so starters can rest and backups get experience. The less time the starters have to play the better given the recent injury issues.

They were flying along, then Brian Ferentz was afraid they were scoring too many points and has implemented his Iowa offense. The odds have been adjusted to reflect that. I kid. I kid.

Their schedule looks kind of tough for a mid-pack Big Ten team. They lost to Michigan State, Indiana, Oregon, Minnesota, Rutgers and Iowa. The only really bad loss there is 37-10 to Northwestern. They did manage to beat USC at home by a point. They haven't lost by more than 27. Maybe they will pack it in while we try to enter the playoff in style. I'd guess 18-24 points.

The best way to encourage them to pack it in is hop on them early with a big play. Either offensively, defensively or with special teams. Demoralizing an opponent early on and getting our crowd into the game is the way.

Allowing the converse to occur could prolong the fight in the tortoise or turtle or whatever the heck that they are....
