As those of us who watched the win over Rutger (tic) from the comfort of our couches can attest, Saturday was yet another in a growing list of efforts by Matt Millen to get under the skin of Penn Staters.

"Penn State's receivers aren't getting separation"? What game was he watching?

And then there was the gem about Ohio State having retroactively outplayed Penn State in our 24-21 win from October 23rd.

All this has lead me to suspect that maybe Mr. Millen is a little salty that the "move on!" strategy of which he has been a vocal supporter was roundly rejected by Penn Staters. Perhaps he's making a conscious effort to take passive-aggressive shots at PSU. What are your thoughts?

Always been this way. Who can forget his panel discussion in '05, stating the Detroit lions were close, but if you think a couple of recruits are bringing the nittany lions back, you are wrong as they have a long way to go.

Wrong twice I believe

I'm in agreement w JC.

Whether or not PSU is involved in the game......the amount of "WTF" that escapes from Millen could fill an oil tanker.

Yes, I think it's on purpose and primarily because he clearly is a hypocritical, bootlicking pecker-head.

Years ago I played baseball against his son in Coplay, Pa .I was about 10 and some of us knew who he was and some doubted it was him. After the game I went up to him and asked if he was Matt Millen. He replied, "no, football is for pussies". Afterwards my dad asked what did I say to him and told him what Matt said, my dad laughed and said, "yeah that's him, he's just being an @sshole."

It is his nature.

He has been doing this since the days that lead to JVP telling him to stand in one spot on the field for the rest of a practice.
LOL, LOL...you took the thoughts out of my mind. That is why I tried to be respectful and shed some light of his possible problem the other day in a post.....he just can't be fixed :(

Millen is doing what they all seem to do;he is stirring up as much controversy as he can.
Today's announcers have upstaged the games. I think this is one reason why fans are tuning out.

It seems as though he finds it difficult to come up with things to talk about spontaneously, which is not good for a color commentator. Sounds unprepared.

"Penn State's receivers aren't getting separation"? What game was he watching?

And "tiny"McSorley with his "popgun arm" LEADS THE NATION in yards per completion. How do you do that if your wide receivers can't get separation?

And Millen said they "don't" get separation; i.e. all year.

Is there an off button for this topic? I've never understood the hate for Millen here.
Hate?
IDK

Seems to me to be primarily recognition of the fact that MM is the bottom of a very deep barrel of CFB "analysts" - and makes any PSU games he broadcasts "un-listenable"......which seems to be a more than fair appraisal

Though I guess some also see him as "anti-PSU" in his commentaries, which may be true as well (I couldn't say, since I usually tune that shit out from the talking heads....and not something I personally pay any attention to)

I know this is a minority opinion here, but I enjoy listening to the guy. Maybe it's because he was a favorite of mine when he played, maybe it's because he reminds me of my dearly departed Uncle Stush, or maybe it's because I don't really listen much to what the announcers say and so I would rather have their words, whatever they are, come from a familiar voice. In any event, I feel better when Matt is doing the game.:)

I think he's plagued w/ the guilt of having his captaincy stripped from him by JVP, and never being the teammate he was capable of. He takes part in no reunions, and other than professionally seems to have no interest in the program (other than SB because of his HS). Why he chooses to dump on PSU to make himself feel better is anyone's guess.

I don't think Mr. Millen performs poorly at his job -- on the contrary, I think he's pretty good at it (to be clear, I'm referring strictly to the color gig). He just can't seem to get through a Penn State broadcast without making a comment that seems squarely aimed at antagonizing his Penn State audience.

I wouldn't go that far. Good color analysts are able to provide insight and information that casual and/or die hard fans may not otherwise notice; not only does he rarely do that, when he does, he's often wrong (for example: 'That's a win for Iowa!' - no it isn't you twit).

A fair point. He's got the radio voice, speaks relatively well, has a working knowledge of the game and can be entertaining. He's got the fundamental tools for TV color.

His lack of football insight is another matter (one that may not be restricted to his broadcast observations, if you take my meaning).

While I don't hate Millen's performance as a color commentator, I do wish he would refrain from predicting the impending departure of our coordinators. That sh*t is gettin' OLD!!!

No

I, lets just say, attended some events on the second floor of Irwin Hall, at the time Clarke was his roomate. Millen was present. Those guys were fun, but I never thought of him as the smartest banana in the bunch

He also is absolutely clueless about details like who is starting on PSU's offensive line, who is currently playing, who went out with an injury. No idea. He loves simple, bland pronouncements. Who's good. Who has feet. Who "it's on". Tate Forcier is the best QB in the Big Ten. He comes up with some doozies.

Actually I just want you to shut up. You are a rambling idiot who doesn't know anything about the sport of football, and spews hate non stop.
But ...... you didn't answer the question. :(

And besides.......who loves ya' more than me, Gunsie?

I firmly believe he suffers from CTE, it's the only explanation.

I don't like Matt. However, as an analyst, I think he does a good job. I can't think of anyone who has not been attacked on this board. Herbie has been very fair to PSU IMO, yet if he says one thing that negatively impacts PSU he is shilling for OSU. These guys are paid for opinions. It's one thing if a personality is a total dick 24/7 like Mark May, but I think some of us are just a little too sensitive.
