OSU did Syracuse a huge favor in letting Kyle McCord go. He hasn't made a big difference in the program there in Syracuse.

I thought OSU did the guy dirty and I'm not sure they upgraded with Howard. McCord was perfectly capable of losing to Michigan as well.

I'd say at best OSU broke even in the deal. I mean, the killer for McCord was last year's Michigan loss -- Ryan Day threw him under the bus for that -- but the record will show Howard had a worse game while losing at home to a Michigan team much less formidable than the one that beat the Buckeyes last year.

Meanwhile, playing on a team with less talent and fewer weapons than available at Ohio State, McCord led the nation in passing yardage and capped it off by shredding Washington State in the bowl game. Definitely, getting McCord was a big-time winning proposition for Syracuse.

He had a great season with Syracuse, and I’m not sure OSU got an upgrade at the position, but I would not take anything from that game last night. WSU was down a huge chunk of their team to the portal and had a 250 pound DT playing.

2024 comparison
McCord QBR 78.7
Howard QBR 85.8

McCord threw 249 more passes than Howard this season. Of course, Howard has better receivers and overall team. Syracuse made out well.

They seem like mirror images of one another. I'm sure if Day knew Howard would blow it against Michigan he would have simply stuck with McCord. I think McCord beats us in HV like Howard did.

Right, Howard had an excellent year...with the exception of one game which unfortunately for him was against Michigan.

The difference is that Howard now gets a playoff chance at redemption and if he cashes it in, then the Michigan loss will be quickly forgiven and forgotten.

That interception McCord threw to end the game vs UM, he had two DL right in his face. The blame should have been placed on the Buckeyes OL rather than McCord. Another very good PA player that turned down PSU. He is a good QB; wish him well.

I would say "ask yourself if Howard would have done similar at a school like Syracuse?", but Howard came from KState. How'd he do there before coming to Buckeye land?

There are probably no less than 30 college QBs who could go to Columbus and have a great year. The talent level, the buy in at all levels, it's an SEC school in the north.

McCord was told to hit the bricks (as many speculated, but certain defenders denied repeatedly). Howard was a mobility upgrade and that's about it.

It's hardly comparable. Not to mention the $20 MM in NIL.....

I watch the Syracuse game. Felt good for the kid.

The Michigan game this year was a coaching failure of the highest magnitude plain and simple..

While Mc Cord had less talent to work with he also faced FAR less talent in the ACC.
His problem at OSU was that he never progressed after the great last minute drive in the ND game.

As an OSU fan I will take Howard over Mc Cord any day.

Fudgem glad WSU lost that president is a complete idiot.

Would you say the same about Burrow? Must be nice to pick and choose, or to lose guys like that!!!
Burrow was a totally different situation. He was the victim of a numbers game. He wanted to stay in the worst way, even offering to move to TE to stay on the team. The parting of OSU and McCord was as much as his father demanding a " raise" to stay as it was OSU pushing him out the door. In other words it was mutual.

BTW

If you want a summary of the league that KM made his stats against, just look at the ACC bowl record. They were 1-9 losing to such powerhouses as ECU ,UCONN, UNLV and Toledo.

I'm not sure if that is fair when it comes to St. Joe's Prep. I don't know the reason, but we don't do very well with their players. Is it a problem with their coaches?

Not that important, but McCord is from Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, so he's not a PA guy.

So, don't draft ACC DBs?

His Bio states hometown, "Philadelphia, PA" so that's a PA guy.......

AGAIN, it's not that important, but he lived Mt. Laurel, New Jersey and commuted to high school each morning. His high school is in Philadelphia, but his hometown is Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, so that's a Jersey guy...

Do you have any information on why we have a high miss rate on St. Joe's Prep?

No, but its been a problem for years. Wonder if we stand a chance with the DE from Phila that decommitted from OSU. Don't know if he committed elsewhere yet.

By all accounts, he seems to have fell off from his previous expected status. I believe he's wanting a 5* bag and he's a 4* talent. No inside info, but last I heard he had 4 or 5 other visits planned...

Three. Ucla, FSU, and Michigan.

Yeah, I see were not in his "top 5" He ranks his interest in us as "Medium." Goodbye, another Philly guy blowing us off. I thought we had a really good chance of landing him with Deion Barnes, but OSU is not loosing sleep over him walking away.
