That kid took a beating yesterday and hung in there to lead the team to what looks now to be an important victory. Apparently coming out of high school he was being offered scholarships as an athlete even though his high school team won 3 state titles and the teams he quarterbacked went 55-5.

I'm happy he followed Coach Franklin to Penn State. He's got "it" and it's exciting to watch.

I believe McSorley was the ONLY QB in James Franklins 2014 Vanderbilt Class. So let's give Franklin the credit for believing McSorley is a legitimate Div 1 QB and convincing him to play at PSU. I like Stevens already for his running ability. I can't wait to see what Zembiec and Clifford have to offer. But they seem to be winners like McSorley.

Athletic yes but clearly this kid's greatest qualities are leadership, toughness, and resolve. Remember when Robinson trucked the Minnesota defender? The team took on this attitude. Remember early in 94 when Kerry Collins ran a dude over? Joe told him to slide but the team became aggressors. McSorley is much better than McSorley, he is McSorley plus a better version of all the other PSU players on the field.

He doesn't really have the stature to play at the next level, but for all of his leadership skills, I'm thinking he could be a tremendous coach down the road.

The next level means NOTHING.

The kid is a leader, a winner, a great teammate, a good student.....he has the "it" factor that many better athletes don't have.

I agree he's doesn't have the typical NFL stature, but he's only a sophomore. Matt McGloin is only 6'1 and when he was a sophomore he had no arm strength and interception prone. I'm not going to say that he could be the next Brees or Wilson, but McGloin could be a possibility down the road.

Michael O'Conner came in with McSorley in the same class. BOB had recruited him. But when the 2014 season started, McSorley had beat him out to be Hack's back up which led to O'Conner transferring to UBC (Canada) at the end of the season.

I hope you're right and he earns a shot at the league. That said he has all of the leadership qualities you'd look for in a great coach...if he decides to pursue a career in football, it's looking like he'll be quite successful.

I said Franklin's Vanderbilt 2014 Class, meaning Franklin has always intended for McSorley to be his QB going back to his Vandy days. I know about McSorley beating O'Conner out.

I've been more impressed with this kid every week, he's a fighter. And since this is college football, how he does or does not project in the NFL has absolutely no bearing on what he does here.

Trace has moxie!

While I agree with all the accolades laid on Trace in this thread, I do believe that we are giving up a lot over the middle throws by having him as our QB. I believe his other attributes are the very reason he plays.

This team is not 8-2 with Hackenberg. I much and as good as Hackenberg was he could not have done what McSorley has done. Just wondering if CJF suggested to CH that there would be a different scheme and that he would have to compete for the job. Again, just wondering.

I've been wondering that since last fall, and I'm more and more convinced that is exactly what happened. I think CJF told Hack he was going to have an open competition for the job and Hack figured he probably wouldn't win that in this offense.

I agree - he kind of reminds me of Simien of the Broncos
