....meanwhile, over at the University of Houston....

Didn't someone not that long ago suggest Houston as a Big Ten expansion candidate?I think my chances of becoming the King of Sweden are looking up.

I've seen a number of people claim that Houston being in the B10 would open up recruiting in Texas resulting in blue chip talent from the state suddenly filling conference football rosters. Apparently if a conference doesn't have a team in a given state they aren't allowed to recruit there. "Open up recruiting in [insert state here]." That always cracks me up.

Thank god for Rutgers and Maryland.

It may be true that a conference gets expanded TV coverage in the state of the newby school. Like having all Rutgers games on the BTN constitutes major exposure.

This article is pretty sensational. What's going on at Houston goes on at a significant number of universities. Think OK State and T. Boone. They've got a billionaire board chair who wants a top- notch athletic program. I don't like the way this football issue is being handled but Applewhite's a poor fit and they know they can upgrade. I'll say this for Tillman Fertita. He puts his money where his mouth is. The new basketball arena is one of the top college basketball venues in the country and their baseball, softball, and indoor football facilities are some of the best you'll see anywhere. They should be in the Big 12.

Here's hoping that you work on your wave protocol. Me thinks you could do a better job at it than King Carl XVI Gustaf. ;)

I have more than that on which to work. I'd fall flat on my face if I had to wear all of those medals. Was Carl Gustaf a Russian general in a previous incarnation?

Having a team in that state does help recruiting. It will ensure that more games from given conference are shown on TV, and covered on local news, TV, and Radio.

From the above article:

“Houston power brokers haven't been shy about their expectations for the program. At a holiday party two years ago -- shortly after Applewhite was hired -- university president Renu Khator said "winning is defined at the University of Houston as 10-2 ... We'll fire coaches at 8-4," according to a Houston Chronicle account of the event.”

o_O

Apparently this president person doesn’t realize that it’s just the university of houston.

Oh wait you mean college football is a business? Damn kids looking out for themselves is the real issue as others make millions and pull power moves over “academic” institutions.

Yeah LaJolla, it's a real b_itch when everyone is looking out for their own self-interest. It's called capitalism, and the last time I checked it's best of the alternatives.

It would seem that any weakness in his wave protocol would be pretty low on the list of things civilized people would hope he'd be working on .

Civilization is overrated, bigly.

With Applewhite fired now, we will hear Franklin is going to Houston....after we hear he’s going to Miami.

^^ here, here. Finally a voice of reason. And who's to say Houston can't do better than the Big 12. Maybe join the SEC. After all, Houston has much to offer as the 4th largest market in the country.

I think the SEC has that base covered with aTm.
