Michigan has canceled its spring football game Saturday at Michigan because of a severe weather threat.
The forecast projects considerable rain and thunderstorms which is why on Wednesday Michigan decided to cancel. Wisconsin also canceled its Friday night spring game for similar concerns.
“We want to ensure the safety of our fans as well as the student-athletes and staff,” Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel said in a release Wednesday. “We also wanted to provide as much notice in advance for fans and the families of our players that were considering attending.”
The game will not be rescheduled because of the limited number of spring practices remaining — Michigan will have practices April 16, 18, 21, 24 — and finals begin soon
“We are disappointed for our fans and players’ families that this opportunity to see our team compete at Michigan Stadium will not be possible due to weather concerns,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said in the release. “We made a decision that was in the best interest of our fans, student-athletes and volunteer staff needed to organize this event.”
