A) I worked out with two guys from Michigan yesterday and they told me that the Meatchicken pronounciation is not authentic Michigander. There was a famous announcer who was playing it up and over time it stuck. Now it's slowly becoming authentic.
B) I took a red eye last night to Detroit and met a bunch of Michigan students. None of them knew anything about their wrestling team.
C) I mentioned my interest in the Michigan wrestling team to my host here in Detroit and he said "I didn't know following college wrestling was a thing"
D) Who needs them anyway

Speaking of Michigan, a returning All-American lost his wrestleoff tonight -- and he got pinned in one of the earlier matches.

Also noteworthy that Myles Amine, 4th last year at 174, needed needed all three matches in a best-of-three to get past Garrett Sutton.

Boy some take to much out of wrestle offs...Most likely don't mean squat. They know each other so well so to me really no big deal.

Is it too soon now to start talking about how great they'll be NEXT year
Well Sutton is a junior, and pretty decent, qualified for NCAAs a few years back. But yeah, that seems to always be the storyline with Michigan.

Yeah, Sutton has been around awhile and has some savvy in controlling a match. Add in the familiarity factor, and it doesn't surprise me very much that he kept it close. Well, I guess I'm surprised he did a little more than just keep it close -- by winning one of the matches.

For the most part, it seems like guys just don't progress very much during their time at Michigan.

Agreed, matter. Other than Russell, who went DNP, 7, RS, 1,1. Brian Murphy comes to mind. He was a huge get for Michigan at the time, never quite lived up to expectations.

Even Russell never developed an elite offense.

I'll have to think more carefully before generally agreeing with the statement, but Tannenbaum and Grajales are two guys that came in highly touted and seemed to plataeu early.

Why was I thinking Murphy was one of those guys that actually overperformed? Thought he was a guy that didn't have the credentials that warranted being considered elite and never even won a state championship in high school... Could be wrong but I was always pulling for him with that thought in mind.

Coon would be going for his 3rd title if he didn't have Snyder and Gwiz at the same weight.

Pantaleo looked real good on the freestule circuit. Expecting him to place higher than 6th, especially since no Zain = 2 arms.

Murphy never won a state title in high school and he may have been the best kid to never win a title in Illinois. His last 3 years he had a top 10 and a couple years a top 5 kid in his weight. Kid was a scrapper though that is for sure. I was little disappointed and surprised with his Div 1 results.

Maybe I'm off with Murphy. It happens. Lol. He was the #27 PFP recruit by intermat coming out of HS. The more I think about it, injuries kind of derailed him at Michigan. I just recall him not finishing equal to or better than his ranking, for what rankings are worth.

And Coon. And Micic.
Myles Amine AA's as a frosh, solid but unspectacular recruit. Alec Pantaleo only qualifies for the state tournament twice, and was a nobody recruit, was the 6th seed at NCAAs as a true frosh and AAs as a true sophomore.

Michigan and Iowa State feel like the new blood wild card teams of the next few years. Excited to see how they turn out because I see them as no way being able to challenge PSU : )

I think Michigan should be who we compare Dresser's Iowa State to. Michigan's the kind of program that ISU needs to overcome before I'll take seriously any talk of them coming for Iowa.

In the 2018 Tourney, can ISU get within 30pts of Michigan? Doing zero in-spreadsheet calcs, only in-head, I'll guess: no freakin way.

2019?

I guess we can all point to how it’s working out for guys like Coon, Massa, etc, but I understand what the poster meant. Michigan’s expectations as a team never quite materialize as an end result. They seem to disappear.
