Michigan's honorary captain on Saturday: Chris Webber

I met him. He's a nice guy.

He told me, and several people sitting around that Michigan's coach Fisher told them a half dozen times in the last timeout that Michigan had no more time outs. So Weber gets the ball and does what? He calls timeout. Weber said that Fisher never once blamed Weber and took the heat for his team not being prepare and calling a timeout which resulted in a free throw and possession, that ultimately lost the game for them.

I think the staff has been pretty good in terms of clock management for the past few years. Our problems late in games have stemmed much more from a failure by the players to execute good clock management strategies or a failure by the staff to call the best plays for the situation, but I haven’t really seen too much butchering to speak of. I think the clock management at the end of first halves has really been pretty good, too. I think it’s more of a trope than anything else at this point.

I've always liked Chris Webber.

As I date myself --- my freshman year in High School, my school hosted Country Day (Webber's High School). My school was actually fairly decent. Anyway, we win the tip and a guy gets the ball, sprints down the court and dunks on Webber. 4 seconds in! Place goes crazy and our guy starts trash-talking Webber.

You can figure how the rest of that game went. I think Webber had literally a dozen dunks on the night.

Yeah, I'm not sure how you honor a cheater who cost you NCAA sanctions.

But maybe being a Michigan Man doesn't preclude being a cheater? IDK.

One of my old jobs had me meeting Chris multiple times, he was always very cool. Definitely got paid, made that mistake, but was a heck of a player. In Sacramento, he and Jason Williams were known as Cheech and Chong. I got into an elevator with them and some others, and they were fried, just pulled their hoodies up and started to laugh.

Webber was their second choice because this guy couldn't make it to AA for the game this week....
