According to Willie, CP, and SHP ... apparently the B10 granted a waiver for its intra-conference transfer rule. He gets 4 years there -- I assume this means he can wrestle varsity now.

Have been hearing rumblings of Youtsey looking to transfer, this would explain that.

Wonder if Micic news has any coattails for Cortez.

Doubtful - this conference only kow-tows to 2 schools. I won't name names but the big10 network shows their 1974 football clash about 587 times a week.

We already have a Bo ... what if he changed his name to Woody Cortez?

I would guess, and its only a guess, but his release may have had something to do with the tumultuous coaching situation at NW? I realize that he left before the coaching change occurred, but perhaps he had prior knowledge?

Hmm, I look forward to reading more about why the waiver was granted. Seems like the "lose a year if transferring within the conference" rule is pretty cut and dry.

Not sure why Youtsey would transfer, at any rate he's already competed this year. Youtsey starts this year at 25 while Micic Olympic redshirts, Youtsey then I would imagine go up to 33 as a senior while Micic slides in at 125. Youtsey isn't a huge kid but given an entire offseason to bulk up going 33 shouldn't be a problem.

Michigan could have a tougher team next year, only losing Rossi Bruno 133 AA and Max Huntley 197 AA, But replacing Bruno with Youtsey moving up who is an AA, and then slotting Micic in at 125, who will be tough. Then add in Logan Massa who looks tough as nails so far at 165. Not sure who would slot in at 197 but they look pretty tough everywhere else.

125 Micic FR
133 Youtsey SR
141 Hall or Fisher SO/JR
149 Pantaleo JR
157 Murphy SR
165 Massa FR
174 Mahomes SO
184 Abounader SR
197 ?
285 Coon SR

Maybe not enough individual title contenders to win the team title, but enough talent to snag a team trophy.

If he gets his then Cortez should be able to wrestle this year and not miss a full year....From what i am told he beats Connaway in the room...This would only make us stronger...Cael would be a fool not to push this issue. They both stayed in the Big Ten....WTH

What is the criteria for this type of waiver. I was always under the impression within the conference you lose a year.

Then what happens with Assad?

Thought it was too, Tom. Anything you, or others, find out and share here would be appreciated. Making an exception to an "easy-to-administer", "cut-and-dry" rule can be a slippery (or "slippy" if you're from my corner of the world) slope.

No, it would be a redshirt year and he would still have 4 years of eligibility left.
No I mean wouldn't his ORS count as the year sitting out from competition for a BIG transfer? Thus keeping his 4 years intact. You can use a RS in this scenerio when u transfer so I would assume an ORS would be the same.

No, because the BIG transfer rule is that you also lose a year of eligibility so they have made an exception for Micic for some reason yet to be determined.

Redshirts don't count against your 4 eligible years. The rule is that a year of eligibility is lost.
I, like everyone else, am very curious as to why an exception was made. I would also like to know if Micic and MI knew that there was a good chance he would get the exception before he transferred (that probably gets answered with an explanation for the exception) and if that influenced his choice of staying in the B1G.

I don't even think he knew if he could get the year back judging by the comments he made after announcing the transfer
