"Pfarr added another ranked win to his resume with a 3-2 decision over No. 11 Matt McCutcheon. Pfarr drove a majority of the action in the contest, narrowly missing on several takedowns when McCutcheon managed to keep Pfarr’s ankle to prevent the official from awarding two points. McCutcheon’s defense kept the match tight until the very end but, ultimately, Pfarr added his sixth ranked win of the season."

Much different from the match I saw. Are all those goophers delusional or what?

And in other news, this particular reporter (a.k.a. Mr.Tipton) was questioned in another situation. His testimony is below:

Vinny Gambini: So, Mr. Tipton, how could it take you five minutes to cook your grits, when it takes the entire grit-eating world twenty minutes?

Mr. Tipton: [a bit panicky] I don't know. I'm a fast cook, I guess.

Vinny Gambini: I'm sorry, I was all the way over here. I couldn't hear you. Did you say you were a fast cook? That's it?

[Mr. Tipton nods in embarrassment]

Vinny Gambini: Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than on any place on the face of the earth?

Mr. Tipton: I don't know.

Vinny Gambini: Well, perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove. Were these magic grits? I mean, did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?

He'll be called Brainerd Bob from now on

now....the rest of the story.... "The Minnesota fighting gophers took it to PSU in a rousing dual. Several PSU wrestlers intentionally shortened matches to avoid 7 minutes of hell with the fierce gophers. The home crowd was particularly amazed when supposed heralded aces at 149,157, and 184 took this cowardly approach to avoiding the full match consequences. "
Coach Eggum was more than a little upset the Lions would travel half way across the country only to avoid his guys where possible. "This is why we have people leaving our program- Fredy saw the writing on the wall and he was correct- Zain wouldn't even wrestle our backup the whole 7 minutes." Sad times for wrestling.

Comedy gold!!!

That post reminds me of the hilarious sarcasm an Indiana poster named Lester Diamond used to dish out on the football board. That guy is a legend.

Fantastic. Your best work, JPIII!

This thread was great. I started with the first post and was all #MadOnline and like wtf Gophers--that's wac af! But the board hooked me up with lols and dissipated the initial negativity.

Eggum's excuses as told to Jason Bryant were destined to be mocked but I don't have any problem with them because it was probably what his team needed to hear at that point in time. Probably an indicator of where Eggum feels the team is at; things were looking up after beating a decent Michigan team only to get a beatdown at home. As a coach you can respond by either driving the guys harder, implying that they weren't working hard enough, or allow them to mentally write off the beatdown as an outlier. The former approach backs you into a corner but some guys respond to it. Some break. Eggum taking over for J Rob recovering from a scandal where two wrestlers just left the program probably doesn't have the luxury to be a hardass.

That said, the PR department's alternate history version of the dual was embarrassing comedy.

Pfarr is the kind of wrestler that seems like he relies on the other guy getting to his ankle so he can use his length to scramble for a TD. I would not use Pfarr and offensive in the same sentence, unless you think his offense is offensive, that is.

I'm confused.

I thought this was the daily thread of another Goofer wrestler leaving their program.

Eggum could have made mention and moved on. Instead he repeated the 'reasons' or excuse and that was bad form.

Paul Harvey would be proud....

I don't believe it. The team may have needed reassurance, but you can give reassurance and comfort without teaching them to make excuses. Cael gives reassurance by saying things like "learning experience" and "Jimmy will be all right"; he does not do it by being a whining wimp.

Pfarr has a lot of offense in his arsenal. Don't be ignorant. He is also really good at counters. guys are adjusting to him and trying to hang on his head and slow the pace down as a high pace favors Brett. IMO McCutchon slowed the pace and that is what Brett wrestled. Neither pushed the pace.

He just chose to keep it under wraps?

Cutch slowed the pace how, but shooting over and over again? LOL.

maybe eggum harbors resentment?

Like their coach the PR video is decent for the first 30 secs....then not so much
Eggum is really a good guy. He's a class act. I like him quite a bit more than some of the other coaches out there. I'm not sure why he went with the logic he did, but there are times when just writing things off as fluky/an aberration can be productive. You probably don't want to use that tactic on your average HS athlete, but with D1 caliber guys, you can do so and know that they will still learn from the loss. They need to get rid of whomever is doing the "creative" writing that we're all reading, no doubt.

Well, I'll agree Pfarr is offensive. It was offensive that the legitimate shot count was 6-1 in favor of Cutch, and Pfarr didn't have a stall call against him. And, the variety of ways and angles that he grabs an ankle is also offensive.

This^^. And Pfarr is quite good at this tactic. Cutch had Pfarr's ankle five or six times, but never really came close to a TD. In fact, in most cases, Cutch ended up hanging on for dear lift to avoid giving up the TD.

Rewatch the entire first period where he just pulled on Pfarr's head and tried to stay above Pfarr's Russian tie. Good strategy to shut down a lot of Pfarr's offense.

I am going to assume I have watched Pfarr wrestle much more than anyone here. Respectfully, I will take my opinion of his offensive body of work over you guys that have probably not watched him much. With a couple of those being against Cox I would guess. If you want to talk about him in this match is one thing, but saying he has no offense in general is dense.

Don't let all the success go to your heads fellas, some are slowly starting to remind me of a certain fan base that also became accustomed to winning. I understand I am in enemy territory and that doesn't always end well. I try my best to always remain respectful as I can be.

Doesn't matter what's said...not one iota...keep your eye on the ball, we have a wrestling match today, and it's time to support the wrestlers.

Grap, I say this with peace and love....but your putting up more of a fight than your squad and there really is no need.

PS- 4 or 5 guys on a message board breaking balls, HARDLY compares to iowa mindset of the last 30 years.

There's a difference between "having" offense and "utilizing" offense, right? 6-1 shot deficit says he didn't do as good of a job of generating his offense, unless his strategy was to counter.

How about "finishing" offense? 0% success rate for Cutch, 100% success rate for Pfarr.

Haha I made myself laugh a little bit over that. I am ashamed but yet so proud haha. Don't take me too serious right now.

I have thought from the beginning that Cutch could make some noise at 197. He is proving that and stepping up for u guys.

Cutch does need to be able to finish those shots....something he's had difficulty with in the past.

In neutral, Pfarr's offense relies very much on "counter attacks" (much like Delgado). Honestly, the way the rules are written, you are not supposed to be permitted to sitting on counter-attacks to an opponent who is initiating all the action - the rules state that you are required to carry half of the initiated attacks and if you do not, you are supposed to get dinged for stalling (first one a warning in folk). In Free you're put on the "shot clock" if you fail to initiate half of the attacks. Pfarr could have easily been called for multiple stalls in first period against Mouse as I can't remember him ever shooting versus quite a bit of shooting by Mouse.
