Most popular beer brands in the U.S. Did yours (mass produced) college days make the list?

Gloves link took me to Bud Light photo then a list of TV show cancellations, but it piqued my interest do I looked it up.

I've only ever had two of the top 10, a Corona and Budlight. I think I've had each 1 time and they're both pisswater. Miller in the mid teens was something we drank, but back then it was too pricey. I've had Stella, Yuengling and Bluemoon all of which are palatable. Although I like a strong taste, Guinness at 26 is too strong for me. I don't see Schaefer, Schmidts, Pabst, Stroh's, Ballantine, Schlitz, Genesee, or our favorite Stegmaier.

Favorites of the national brands.

Yuengling Premium
Yuengling Lord Chesterfield
Yuengling Lager
Yuengling Golden Pilsner
Sam Adams Lager

Mea Culpa, I misread the thread title. Yuengling wasn't sold in any of the bars in State College in my day; Sam Adams didn't exist yet. Back then you had really limited choice: Budweiser was king; Michelob was popular; Schmidt's was third choice at the My-O-My. Bars only had 3 or maybe 4 beers on tap; the bottled choice was similarly limited; one of the most popular was Rolling Rock of Latrobe. If memory serves me correctly, Iron City wasn't sold in State College, but some places may have had it in cans/bottles.

My Favorite college beers and go to's were, now remember this was the mid 80's so we didn't have a lot of choices.

1. Michelob
2. Genesse either the 12 horse Ale or the Cream.
3. Wide mouth Mickey's.

In the mid-60s I liked Ballantine Ale and the Ballantine IPA in the long neck returnable bottles. When Falstaff bought Ballantine they ruined both brews.

OK a couple of things:
1) as people have said the link is BS so that's why the thread went off the original rails - I'm gonna take it farther...
2) Some of you older folks (I graduated from psu in 94 just to provide prospective) are mentioning beers that I have only heard of from my dad and others of his generation (he graduated from psu in 64)...
3) With 2 said, the coolest place I have ever seen a mass produced beer is a bottle of Fort Pitt (the bottle is full btw) in a case in the Airborne Museum in Saint-Mere-Eglise France. Apparently it was part of rations.

I drank Michelob, Rolling Rock, and Schlitz in college. Now that my metabolism has slowed I drink Bud Light. How else am I going to maintain this figure?

Esslinger. Case of 16 oz. for about $8.00 way back when. Also Bartels and Ortliebs. A Baltimore Sun article said there were over 60 breweries in Baltimore in 1900 but only three 70 years later.

Reading Premium Beer in 16 oz. returnable bottles was really cheap.

Colt 45 Malt Liquor for a quick buzz. It would make the freshman girls at the mixer look prettier.

Schaefer - The beer to have when your having more than one.

Moosehead or Molson Canadian for an upscale import.

My personal favorite was Piels Real Draft Beer

Doesn't that list make you cringe now as a 50 something? Oy!

Today, my go to's are Weihenstephaner Vitus, strong Belgians & various craft brews. A far, far, cry from Genny 12 horse.

LOL, a little but I still like Michelob. Although I very rarely drink it.
We are doing Guinness White Ale, and Kolsch labels at work but so far I haven't been able to find them in the store. The guy at Wine World said he thought the release date was April.
I love a good White Ale.

Must have been an older Sun article. I can think of few that we make labels for...Guinness, Heavy Seas, Monument City, Oliver Brewing, Evil Genius and DuClaw.

In college, I’d drink whatever they were serving at the party or whatever was on special at the bar.

I got a case of 16 oz Schmidt's returnables for $5 every week in grad school. Now I have drunk 3 beers in the last 2 months.:(

Blatz, Csrling Black Label, Hamms, Koehler for a few
Blatz is, hands down, the worst beer I’ve ever had. Had two 16 ouncers at a college friend’s house one weekend. Got a splitting headache about a quarter of the way through the first one, finished the second and fell asleep for like 13 hours. Brutal.
I had the good fortune of not really starting drinking until I was 20 and working at a liquor store at that time so I never really drank below the mainstream beer level. Budweiser was my steady beer for those years. If I was at a bar and felt like classing it up I’d got with Fosters.

I lived overtop the My O My my senior year of ‘68. Very convent locatio, we had a balcony right
over College Av where we could chat up the coeds as they strolled by.Let me state emphatically,
only drank on the main floor- never went to lower level!

"Pearl" was the worst I ever drank!

Schmidt's, Schlitz, Schaefer’s and Stroh’s were all top 10 beers 40 years ago, now you see a few dusty cases in the corner at the distributor.

My grandpa drank Piel’s and my dad Old Milwaukee pounders. Grew up about 20 miles from Yuengling but few of the old timers drank it back in the day.

Natty Light was my beer of choice in college.

It still exists? That's the first beer I ever drank. Ugh...
From what I read, the original was bought out and made by another company. This company brewed Schmidt as well. Eventually, they just combined the two for marketing and other purposes.
