got beat to Video Killed the radio star, Freshman in HS had 4 channels sometimes 5 had no clue what MTV was for a few years and why everyone was so excited and look at it now

In 1980 I saw the Buggles video for Video Killed The Radio Star as a filler between movies on HBO. I wondered what the heck they were talking about. About a year later I found out. HBO played random music videos between movies sometimes back then (late 70’s to at least 1980). Another I remember was Thin Litzy performing the Cowboy Song.

My sister and I used to wait for 11PM when a local religious channel would go off air and MTV would come on the same channel. The owner of the religious channel eventually found out and he extended his broadcasting past 11 PM.

In the early 80’s, at 4 or 4:30 PM every day HBO would play “Video Jukebox”. I assume that time was selected to capture kids after school. My girlfriend had HBO so we would meet at her apartment on College Avenue to watch it and then do “homework “.

And then there is the part late in the J. Geils Band song "Centerfold" where it looked like the drummer was about to hit the drum with the stick abut the drum turned out to be milk.
