Mueller vs Roman Bravo-Young Added To July 25th Card

Serious question...as a student athlete, can RBY receive a paycheck for this match?

It would be a serious NCAA violation.

The Braunagels wrestled Rumble on the Rooftop, gratis, according to the Ryan Warner & Jordan Blanton live on the air--to preserve their remaining eligibility with Illinois.

All that said, with sports seasons, and whole programs (Stanford), in such flux, it's probably reasonable to lump the NCAA into that flux. Like, what will that organization even become, going forward?

For RBY, it's a choice. Actions & Consequences arena. What kind of consequences might he anticipate from whatever the NCAA is or will be this fall, should he decide his Action is to take a paycheck?

I'd guess, very strongly, that he will abstain from accepting payment for delivery of his wrestling services.

At this point in time.

Honestly, despite Mueller technically being the class under, have a feeling that 137 is to accommodate him, he is a big 125 ... some rumors he gets up to like 160 in the off season.

I'd like to see money from events like this put into a trust, to not be touched until after all NCAA eligibility is expired. (Of course this might require sensible NCAA rules, insert punchline here.)

Kinda like how Snyder received his $250k from USA Wrestling for winning 2016 Olympics.

Good call jefe.

We are hoping the NCAA vote on paying college athletes in January 2021 allows for payment to student athletes

I thought Pletcher retired last year? This is his second match this summer? Is he attempting a comeback for the 2021 Olympics?

Not sure if this was mentioned in another thread but in Flo's interview with RBY he said that with the way things are going with Covid and college sports he is leaning towards a redshirt this year.

I noticed that RBY has the Greek word, πάλη (pronouced "pal-ay") tattooed on his right bicep. (Link to image below on RBY's Twitter account)

It's the original Greek, I think, for "wrestling" but can also mean more generally to "fight", "battle" or "struggle".

Here's some additional etymological points for those with interest:

πάλη, παλης, ἡ (from πάλλω to vibrate, shake), from Homer down, wrestling (a contest between two in which each endeavors to throw the other, and which is decided when the victor is able θλίβειν καί κατέχειν his prostrate antagonist, i. e. hold him down with his hand upon his neck; cf. Plato, legg. 7, p. 796; Aristotle, rhet. 1, 5, 14, p. 1361b, 24; Heliodorus aethiop. 10, 31; (cf. Krause, Gymn. u. Agon. d. Griech. i. 1, p. 400ff; Guhl and Koner, p. 219f; Dict. of Antiq. under the wordlucta)); the term is transferred to the struggle of Christians with the powers of evil: Ephesians 6:12.

Seeing how Cael utilizes redshirt years here ... RBY redshirting next year should send chills down the spines of other 133/141 for when he returns

I think rby could be Spencer Lee's biggest hurdle if he can make 57. Id rather rby get bigger and go 65 for Olympic years. 61 would be idea.

57 is going to be crazy tho. Lee, rby, fix, suriano, gross, nato, gilman. I'm sure I'm leaving people out but all of those guys could win that. The fact that gross even made 57 is just gross lol. He's interesting at that weight tho. Riveria but he's going up in weight and not repping the USA?
