Nate Jesuroga Interview why he quit wrestling

Really likeable kid. Wish him the best in his next journey. What I like is he just made a decision on what made him happy and stuck with it. Imagine there was obviously a ton of pressure to reconsider so glad he stuck to his guns.
Yes. And it says he’s up to 150 now after wrestling 120. I bet he is loving being able to eat what he wants!

I do think it’s very funny that the state of Iowa finally had two super high-end wrestling recruits in Jesuroga and Kueter. Iowa gets commitments from both of them. Then one gives up wrestling and the other one is a high-end football recruit. That’s got to be a real kick in the nuts.

According to HR, Kueter is going to end up focusing on wrestling more but also keep playing football. Not sure Kirk Ferentz would approve of him missing practice Nebraska week to wrestle a dual.

They used Brody Brecht (dual sport athlete who quit football recently) as an example which is maybe the least apples to apples comparison ever. Brecht is a 1st round pitcher (so his millions are coming) and a depth WR for football (87 career yards)

Kueter legitimately could be pushing for a starting spot by year 2 at Iowa and will be an early NFL draft prospect (can't deny Iowa churns those out) and even if he is the #1 285 and a contender for the Olympic spot, that pales in comparison to the NFL money.

If Kueter chooses to wrestle over playing football, color me shocked. We can't even keep our prospects in wrestling from MMA (which pays dogs***) and the WWE (which isn't as much as the NFL when you're just starting out)

87 career receiving yards will put him among their top targets at Iowa.

This is actually really sad. He was a very promising prospect. Seems to have very low self esteem. I don’t know him but wish him the best. I am sure he will make a good navy seal if he makes it through

LOL what????

Can't imagine a more confident thing to do than quitting the sport where you're ranked number 1 in the country because you don't feel like it anymore.

JS,
Now now, we have a new rule here at NN. No more name calling. Please edit that comment to something like "participation award winner comment".

We'll see how football plays out for him. Look at recruiting rankings and you'll see them littered with 4/5 stars who never make it on the field in college. How good is he really? Is he fast enough? Does he have the instincts to play off ball linebacker? Does he need to move to edge? How much length can he put on and are his arms long enough?

I know I'm piling on at this point, but you are a bad person, and should consider getting a hobby other than disparaging teenagers.

Sebolt produces some studs but at a cost. Over trained from a very young age. Way too much weight cutting. He didn't quit to become a Navy Seal. He quit because he was pushed so hard for so long that it just became pure misery.

This is 100% true and I might be getting the cart ahead of the horse here but this is more of a compliment to Iowa's coaches. I've seen them turn LBs like Kueter into surefire NFL players over and over and over. Kueter by all counts is kind of raw in football but his HS stats are ridiculous (think he posted almost 50 TFL?) He ended up being rated as a 4 star recruit even though he never went to any national camps.

Though if you ask Kueter right now he'd say he will be both an Olympian and a Butkus winner.

-He is real good. Blue Chip
-More than fast enough.
-His football instincts are one of his best attributes
-He doesn't need to move to the edge, but has the frame work to have a hand in the dirt forsure.

6ft 4" 230 LBS last I heard. I'm guessing he fills out to 240 soonish.

Plus Iowa has a tremendous track record of producing animals like him on the defensive side of the ball.
