Had a couple interesting conversations that relate to PSU in one way or another. The first two were from extremely credible sources close to the situation with the third more a rumor floating around the arena.

Conel was pushed to wrestle this season by the coaches despite already having a severe shoulder injury and this was the catalyst for his transfer from Kent State. His repair was done by extremely qualified doctors however the nature of the injury is such that there is legitimate concern that it may not hold up to the grind of a season of Division I wrestling.

Teasdale has moved to Iowa and is living with Spencer Lees family and is training at Coe College. Terry Brands is taking him under his wing, so to speak, and will be working with him over the off season. It was between Iowa and Campbell with his family hoping for Campbell and Kolat only because it would be less pressure and they know Kolat fairly well. Also, Gavin absolutely was supposed to wrestle at the Scuffle but he simply could not make 125, closest he got was 127 and that was after going all out, just couldn't make it. Doesn't sound like any hard feeling with PSU, Gavin just going through some growing pains.

Ok, this one is more a rumor, talk going around in PSU section that both Cassar and Rasheed were granted their 6th year. Unlike the first two, this was not from a credible source and just something that someone heard from another fan who heard it from god knows who.

Nationals always seems to show just how small the wresting community is. You never know who you are going to run into or what you might here. For example, waiting for the shuttle yesterday morning, I started talking to a woman in Oklahoma gear. Turned out she Dom Demas mother. Of course I immediately told her that Nick Lee was going to make her son wish he was never born, well not really, haha, but I had some friendly back and forth with her and here daughter.

Anyhow had a couple interesting conversations that relate to PSU in one way or another. The first two were from extremely credible sources close to the situation with the third more a rumor floating around the arena.

I heard that both Cassar and Rasheed were notified that they received the 6th year as well - mine from a what should be a credible source, but as I have always posted, even credible sources do not get the end result exactly correct 100% of the time. Did not hear if the decision has been made to return or not yet though.

Do they want to return? If they do return do the talented recruits will want to sit and wait?

In Cassar's interview he was asked about a 6th year. He said he has freestyle asperations and will consult with his family and friends before making a decision whether or not to come back.....even if granted a 6th year. Pump the brakes a bit.

Why apply for a sixth year if you didn't want to do it . Hard to believe a championship would be the thing that determines that

Cael said he purposely did not list Cassar as a senior and it sounded like he would be trying to get him to come back.

I heard that Pitt's RTC is in negotiations with a prominent former buckeye to come train there which could really help elevate them. They need to raise some funds for this to legitimately happen though. Anyone else hear something similar?

It’s about having options when making the decision on what to do next. Have to think with Rasheed he has to think about the cost of one more year, if his body can take another year of D1 wrestling and if he wants to start his next chapter but at least he has all the options open to him when he sits down to think about in a couple months

The 2nd question isn't a real question. Brooks and Nevills both knew before committing about Shak and Cassar applying for a 6th year.

Also, when your true goal is Olympic and World titles, then you won't be deterred by a redshirt year.

At the social last night, Shak said he wants to come back for a 6th year and he thought his chances were “really good”. Also most like he knew something we didn’t.

I liked this because there is no love button. I can't wait to watch Brooks, but in this case I will wait. I also think Brooks could use a year mat wrestling in the room to add to his explosive arsenal he already has on his feet.

Weights change. Sort of like Shak, Cassar and AJ Nevills. . There is more than Brooks and Nevills. There is Brooks, Nevills, Beard, Starocci and maybe Conel + whoever I missed.

By the logic of that question, why apply to multiple schools when you will only attend one? ;)

... Hard to believe a championship would be the thing that determines that
Why is it hard to believe? Is attaining your 5-year college goal not a big difference versus not attaining it? Is finishing unfinished business not maybe different from still having unfinished business? o_O

Joe Lee coming in and Teske coming off his redshirt season. Lock and load again.

I know a few posters (and other fans) have been concerned before about how some of our redshirting/greyshirting kids look at open tournaments and conclude they aren't on the path to become hammers (Joe Lee, Brody Teske) because Nolf/Nickal for the most part looked ready to AA as true freshman. Zain beat Stieber his true freshman year and was clear 2nd or 3rd best at that weight but his bonus rate was also (gasp) 39%. I know Ruth/DT both took Losses redshirting.

Is that kind of an overreaction? I feel to expect HS kids to come in and just walk over the competition is unrealistic. College competition is college competition end of the day. Just a year and a half ago, Anthony Cassar (as a RS JR) lost to Garrett Hoffman and now he's a heavyweight champion. Didn't Bo Nickal lose to Andy McCulley his redshirting year before becoming a 4x finalist and 3x champ?

Cassar has attained his goal. I say he is off to MMA and great for him.

I agree with this. For our other big guns, it's pretty clear that the goal is to win as many championships in 4 years as possible. Given Anthony's very atypical journey to the top of the podium, I think last night was the pinnacle for him. As much as I'd love to see him back in the lineup, I think it might be best for him to go out on top and pursue his goals outside of collegiate wrestling. Also, I assume that he has already graduated or will be this May?
