NCAA Mat Layout

From the article:

...the larger venue provides the opportunity to spread out mats providing optimal competition space for wrestlers. Photographers will have better access to mats to capture action shots.

I was really hoping this would be the case. Getting stuck at either end is havoc for shooting the matches in the middle mats for sessions 1-3, because instead of 2 refs bouncing through your shot, there are as many as four plus two wrestlers. I could put together a gallery show of referees' asses if a market for such a thing ever presented itself.

Hmm, Just a couple thoughts on that article:

1) I am wondering if the NCAA was smart putting that photo rendition of the stadium out..., I think that point of view was taken from my seats ... and I could barely see the mats closest in the foreground, let along the ones in the back...o_O... but good news is my new binoculars have arrived, and that is likely the best arrangement possible for the whole stadium experiment

2) looking at the sold out photo rendition also horrified me in realizing the volume of our yellow & black friends that will like be present for their likely (albeit brief) return to the National throne ... but other “pre-coronated” teams have had a “bad tournament”... so there is always room to think positively! :D

3) I had to chuckle to myself when I read that the wrestlers will run out to the finals mat on red & green carpets from the tunnels... I envision them running all 50+ yards from the end zones to the mat, arriving already gassed... I hope that in the next week they do some distance running exercises to avoid that!:p

So the Big Ten kids go from an undersized crowded arena for Conference championship to just the opposite in a matter of 2 weeks.
I understand the want to grow the sport but for the average fan with a normal budget the size of the stadium is going to take away one's enjoyment. I have a feeling that if your seats are where the rendering shows you're going to be watching the matches on the far mats either on your phone or jumbo screen.
That kinda defeats the purpose of watching it live.

I couldn’t even imagine. I use binoculars at my nephews high school soccer games. I’d need to upgrade for Minny.

Was told today the chances are rising the NCAA will pull the trigger on no fans in the building. Same for the Olympic Trials. Wouldn't say it's 50/50 quite yet but it's getting close.

How things are trending, I fear/sense the same thing. School cancellations announced everywhere here in NYC today, and rumors of sporting event cancellations accompany every news broadcast.

I was told at EIWAs that the Harvard qualifiers will not be permitted to fly to nationals and will have to make a bus trip to get there.

Was also told that any Brown qualifiers would be prohibited from attending nationals. Fortunately or unfortunately, there were no Brown qualifiers this year.

Leave the binocular case in the room. Just checked the policy and they’re not allowed in the stadium.

That seems to be the trend I'm hearing it from many places.More teams will be driving then flying.

Now you will only shoot one mat at a time. In the past you could easily shoot 2 matches, and have a chance to shoot 4 mats. One and only one match at a time now.
