Friday is where the NCAA tourney really picks up steam w/ quarters & semis.

Teams start to make their move. Dozens and dozens of intriguing matchups on Friday.

I'd like to talk about PSU quarters. Friday morning could catapult PSU ahead or keep us back with Okie St & tOSU.

Assuming everything stays to chalk for PSU on Thursday (which it won't, but let's assume it does )

What do you guys see in these following matchups ? They're all tough and all vs wrestlers we haven't seen much this year as PSU fans:

3 Joseph vs 6 Lewis
5 Hall vs 4 Epperly
5 Mouse vs 4 Haught
5 Nevills vs 4 Kasper

Anyone want to take a stab at these 4 potential (& critical) matchups ?

It would be fantastic to have as many PSU guys make the semis as possible.

And all of these quarters matchups would make for 1st time AAs for each of these 5 guys (counting Suriano)

(It doesn't matter who Zain & Nolf wrestler in quarters.
Bo has seen Dudley twice.
And Suriano's ankle is the topic vs The field & 6 Lizak)

I like VJ over Lewis and Hall over Epperly.

I'm not sure about Mouse over Haught. Mouse wrestles almost every match so close that the only thing I'm willing to say is that it will be a 2-1/3-2 type of match for the winner.

I'm on the fence about NN vs Kasper, too. I think Nick is capable of winning that and would not be surprised if he did.

Clutch and Nick will both beat these guys....

It's great to hear the confidence. I just watched Lewis and Epperly for a while:
1) both of these wrestlers offer our guys a real match and a worthy victory should they move on to the semis.
2) stylistically VJ is in better shape in that he has an opponent who could be dominated by seven minutes of good fundamentals which is VJs wheelhouse.
3) Epperly offers Hall a more critical challenge in that he's big like Bo/Krutch and appears to have meticulous positioning.
4) VJ wins with hustle and solid fundamentals. Hall wins by creating angles and finishing TDs.
5) these matches will be a test of the coaching staffs ability to prepare our wrestlers. And our wrestlers ability to put constant pressure on their opponents. Let Lewis or Epperly take charge and things will get very hard.

Great idea for a thread Digger.

Lewis has some nice wins but I think this one really won't be as close as some think. Joseph will be in control of this match. Maybe no bonus but I don't think the outcome will be in doubt.

Hall vs Epperly - this is one of the most intriguing matchups to me. I like Hall in this one but it wouldn't shock me if Epperly keeps it close and catches him like Meyer.

Cutch - I haven't seen Haught wrestle this year so I can't really offer much of an opinion on this one.

Nevills - Kasper is a smaller athletic heavyweight but Nevills is just as dynamic and will have a serious weight advantage. I think this is a good matchup for Nevills and he will control this match.

Assuming a fully healthy Suriano I think we have a decent shot at getting 8 into the semis. Unlikely to happen but I think we get at least 6. IMHO we are favored in 7 of 8 as I really think Nevills should have been seeded ahead of Kasper and Hall's seeding suffers from the early season loss and the loss to Meyer, which IMHO are well behind him at this point.

The assumption that "keeping it close" vs Mark equals beating him, is incorrect. I believe, or hope(lol), that the losses to Meyer and Jordan, are anomaly's.

Just curious if anyone knows the weigh-in times and policy for each day/round. After seeing Jordan size against Hall last week I think a couple of our wrestlers might benefit if weigh-ins are immediately before the Quarterfinals. I'm not sure ,are quarters Morning or evening session?

quarters are Friday morning.. Semis Friday night... Finals Saturday night,

I'm more curious about weigh-ins schedule?

Weigh-ins are 2 hours before wrestling on Day 1 and 1 hour on Days 2 and 3. There is a 1 pound allowance for each day so 1 pound on Friday and 2 pounds on Saturday. Hence, many finalists weigh a good bit more than their weight class by the time of the finals since they weighed in 12= hours before they wrestle AND they don't have to make weight again until November.

So, to connect the dots between your question and Nova's response, Friday night has to be the toughest test for guys who are cutting a lot of weight. They have to weigh in the next day, so have to watch what they eat all day Friday.

Same thing for Thursday night.

That's true. I guess I was thinking along the lines of number of matches wrestled and consecutive days/hours of watching weight.

Thursday night T(initial weigh-in) +10 hours, + 1 match. Friday night T(initial weigh-in) +34 hours, + 3 matches. Or, something close to that.

The guys that lose Friday night are faced with even worse when they wrestle Saturday morning.
