Rutgers football is facing "unprecedented" sanctions from the NCAA to be announced today for "failure to monitor". Under the prior coaching staff, drug use was rampant and failed drug tests were swept under the rug, the former head coach talked to professors about changing players grades to keep them eligible, and the football team used female hostess' "improperly" as recruiting tactics...
Ok they aren't facing the death penalty, and I'm not sure what the NCAA can do to dole out punishment that Rutgers administration hasn't already done to the football program throughout their history but let's examine some possibilities
1) vacating wins - they don't have many wins to vacate so who cares
2) Bowl ban - this team isn't going bowling anytime soon anyway, would this really be a punishment?
3) reduction of scholarships - Rutgers is offering and receiving commits from kids who have no other power 5 offers, they already recruit FCS level players...maybe treating them as an FCS school with limited scholarships available wouldn't change much
4) monetary fine - Rutgers self imposed a $5k fine...gee that was generous of them...
i do not see how any NCAA sanction would impact the dumpster fire that is the current state of Rutgers football
