Since there’s a break in action this week need some info. My son and I planning on going to Richmond for nascar race. Coming from Hollidaysburg pa. Any recommendations on lodging within one hour of Richmond. Need a stress free weekend after next couple weeks

Consider Charlottesville. Very nice college town, beautiful campus. Between Richmond and I-81, so you'll miss DC traffic completely.

You could stay in Ashland (north of racetrack near King's Dominion), anywhere near the airport is close as well, or anything west (Richmond, Midlothian, Chesterfield) will keep you close. Charlottesville is nice, but it just about 1 hour from the track.
Regardless try to get to Bottoms Up Pizza downtown (lunchtime there is better) .

Fredericksburg is another option, north of Richmond but on I 95. Ashland is closer to Richmond and a nice little town with several hotels, also on I 95.

The Short Pump area is a city within the city. All new stuff - mall and all the food you want. Considered the far West End of Richmond (Henrico Co)

I went to a driving experience at Richmond Raceway in late October. I stayed in the Glen Allen area. It was a 20 minute drive from the track (under regular traffic conditions). It seemed like a nice area with lots of Hotels and tons of dining options.
