New commit - a kicker

Barbir will be a redshirt sophomore next year after Davis graduates this year, so he will have the opportunity to be a three year starter. This kid will be competing against him. Franklin just locked down the kicking game for the next six years.

From BSD:

After signing kicker Alex Barbir in the 2016 class, can’t say I saw the Nittany Lions using a scholarship on another kicker again until 2019 or 2020. Here’s what Kohl’s Kicking has to say about Pinegar:

Pinegar recently attended the 2017 Midwest Spring Showcase. He is one of the best athletes in the 2018 class. He has explosive hips and fast leg. He charted well by making 9 field goals and also averaged 71.75 yards per kickoff. Having the ability to call on his "A" ball will need to be a focus this summer. His "A" ball on kickoffs, is in the top 5 nationally. Pinegar attended the 2016 Winter Showcase Camp in December. He charted very well going 8 out of 10 on field goals. He shows great control of his leg and with continued work on his leg strength he will do some special things as a specialist.

You don't plan to have 2 scholarship kickers for 3 years.

He could be an important piece. I'd like to hear more about how he and PSU connected; how did Coach Franklin identify the kid as a target, and how did he get Pinegar to leave the Midwest to come on board?

CJF is now going to many places outside the natural recruiting area; it's a testimony to his hard work, the attractive features of the University, and the growing reputation of the football program. Really something to watch and enjoy.

Ankeny Centennial place-kicker Jake Pinegar appears to be headed to a Power Five conference school following his decommitment from Bowling Green on Wednesday night.

Pinegar, who committed to the Falcons on June 17, announced his decision on Twitter.

"After a long consideration I've decided to decommit from Bowling Green and seek into other options," Pinegar tweeted.

Two Big Ten Conference programs are now the front-runners for Pinegar, who is ranked the No. 13 kicker nationally in the Class of 2018 by Kohl's Kicking Camps.

"Indiana just offered me, and I'm going to Penn State in a few weeks and they will most likely (offer) as well," Pinegar said. "I wanted to make it between those two schools."

Never underestimate the value of explosive hips. I once had a girlfriend blessed with that trait in her DNA. Those were the days!

Pronounced like "vinegar" but with a "p."

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Class of 2018 specialist worked out for the Nittany Lions on Friday night at camp. Prior to that, he impressed the staff at the Northern Illinois camp in June.

Pinegar is also an athlete, earning all-state honors as a defensive back last season.

He’s a two-time all-District selection in football and a three-time all-conference member in soccer.

He also finished sixth in the state in the 110-meter hurdles.

Boasting a huge leg that won him the kickoff competition at Oklahoma in June, Pinegar is the No. 13 kicker in the nation according to Kohl’s Kicking. Here’s what they had to say about him.

“Pinegar recently attended the 2017 Midwest Spring Showcase.

He is one of the best athletes in the 2018 class. He has explosive hips and fast leg.

He charted well by making 9 field goals and also averaged 71.75 yards per kickoff.

There are some questions about how good Barbir is/will be, reports are he's been disappointing. Therefore, this verbal.
