I finally got some time to finish up a feature where you can see the results of the prediction.

On the Box Score page for duals, you can now see the results of the prediction engine for each of the 10 match results, right below the actual result. It will also show a result status of a green checkmark if the engine correctly predicted a win (regardless of win type), or a red "x" if it predicted a win but the result was a loss.

Couple other things to note:
1) Both wrestlers/schools must be in the same Division
2) Must be a valid win type, ie: DEC, MD, TF, FALL, SV-X, TB-X
3) The predicted result was calculated AS OF 1 DAY PRIOR TO THE ACTUAL MATCH

This will give everyone the opportunity to see, at a quick glance, how the prediction engine performs.

Linked below is the "Recent Duals" page where you can check out as many results as you want. You can also go back to prior seasons by going to a schools profile page for X season, then clicking the "Schedule" tab from there (though you have to be logged in to view other seasons' profiles).

Nice job.

I note that you give the site credit in the form of a green checkmark even where, say, the engine saw Cenzo beating Isaac Bast 10-6 and Cenzo pinned him. Not that I'm ungrateful for all the work you've put in but that's being pretty kind ;) Maybe a blue star when the site nails both the result and the result type.

If he got the winner correct, but:

Win type was correct, gold check.
Win type off by 1, silver check.
Win type off by 2, bronze check
Win type off by 3, participation ribbon.

BTW, KYPSW does not like where this is headed.

andegre...I'm assuming this is a "static" feature? For example, as a talented true freshman gets more bouts and moves up the rankings, at some point his predicted result will flip against the guys that (before he got his 15 or so bouts in) the algorithm had in front of him. Will the predicted result change on the Box Score page?

No, it's as of the date of the actual dual. Any/all future matches should have no bearing on the prediction.

Not that I know the answer for certain but I'm 99% sure that it's fixed to the time the prediction was made, only because I'm somewhat aware of the programming that would need to happen to make what you're describing occur, and it'd be an extra headache that would trigger even more programming questions. The algorithm obviously learns, so I imagine it'd be possible to 'return' to predictions when the data set is larger, which would give you more reliable post-hoc predictions, benefiting the site's track record with respect to no-sample wrestlers like RBY.

Thanks, I was 99.1% sure that was the case! What do you do, make the rounds on every major wrestling forum in the country each hour or so? You're everywhere.

I was going through this looking for something else "prediction engine" related, and then I saw this post. I do NOT remember seeing this back in the day (4 years old now, woops!). I love this idea! I'm adding this to my enhancements.

I'll do you one better. I don't remember posting it. 😔
