New format question (not a complaint!)

Is there an easy way to distinguish between threads with unread posts, and those you've already read? I thought the little blue dot next to the thread title served this purpose, but I just realized that all threads seem to have this, even those I've read previously and haven't had a post in several days. I very clear view of unread vs. read (color coding, an icon of some sort, etc.) would go a long way in helping to navigate the new format. I'm guessing it's there, I'm just not seeing it. Looking at the last post date/time is one way to get a rough idea, but it isn't great since I don't keep track of the time I last read a thread.

The little blue dot is the indicator, but it appears that the board doesn't auto refresh and this will not update with just the back button. You have to refresh the whole page again.

Threads with things that are unread appear in bold. When you click on said thread, it takes you to the first unread post--there's no need to scroll through already-read posts.

As I'm viewing it on my desktop, once I've read a thread and there hasn't been a post since I read it, the thread title is not bolded and there is no blue dot. Then, once there's an update, the thread title is bolded and the blue dot appears and when I click on it, it takes me to the first post posted since I looked at that thread. That's my favorite new feature. That way, you don't have to scan through all of the previous posts to get to thet new ones that you haven't seen yet.

As gamblepsu said, just hitting the Back button (in your browser) won't auto refresh and show the thread as read. Click the 'Back (to Threads/Forum)' link near the top of the page. The thread should not appear in bold now.

Good to know, thanks. That will be a tough habit to break, I have a mouse with a back button so I use that for navigating all the time.

Something I just noticed... When I use my browser's back button I land on the thread list exactly where I was before opening the thread, no scrolling required, extremely convenient. When I use the "back to threads" button, things revert back to the top of the page and you have to scroll down again to where you were previously. It's a minor browsing inconvenience for sure, but is one reason I won't use the button so I won't be able to take advantage of the read/unread thread indicators.

Here's something I noticed, and I predict a big blowup because of it eventually. I was going to post something on the Baltimore thread last night and decided not to. I deleted all the text in the reply field. Well I read that thread today and every word is still there in the reply field. No matter how many times you delete it, if you change your mind about posting something it is still in that reply field. Be careful. Delete it completely again and write over it before posting. If you just start posting and hit reply, that stuff you didn't want is going out there. Curious feature.

I had a problem with that as well. It was very odd. I started to write something, changed my mind, erased it, closed my laptop, came back a bit later, and it was still there.

Thank you, I knew I wasn't crazy.
Now you just have to convince the rest of us.:D Oops....that was one of those mistakes Victor! :D Sorry.............Seriously, I'm glad you pointed it out because it will come back to bite someone if they're not careful.
